McGroders To Come Under New Ownership July 2018 will again bring a new chapter to the Forbes legal firm that has grown and changed over the century. From the first of July 2018 the practice known as McGroders will come under the ownership of Stephanie Hughes, from Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing. For clients this change will have little impact except for a change of address, 9 Harold Street, Forbes. Dennis and the McGroders team will all move to 9 Harold Street, the phone number and other contact details will remain the same. Completed files from the past seven years, all title deeds, wills and other safe custody documents from RO Palmer; Palmer and Maccallum; Palmer Macccallum and Akon; Palmer Maccallum Akon and McGroder, Palmers and McGroders solicitors will remain in safe keeping at Hughes and Co Lawyers and Conveyancers. Dennis is approaching 66 and after a hard and satisfying working life to date and with 3 children living away and 6 grandchildren needs to put in place a viable succession plan for the practice for the benefit of his staff and his clients. He intends working for Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing as a consultant until he retires. Dennis would like to assure the community and all his clients that he has not taken this decision lightly and that ensuring the continuity of quality service, continued employment of his staff and care for his clients has been paramount. He feels very confident that Stephanie Hughes and her team and the McGroders team will guide this historic Forbes legal practice into its new chapter with quality skills and service, young ideas, energy and enthusiasm. Finally and sadly the premise of 155 Lachlan Street will be unoccupied from July 1st 2018. This stately old building has been a private home, a maternity hospital and a legal office. Taylah’s Week At The Phoenix
For those of you who are unsure, I spent my last week at the Canowindra Phoenix for my Year 10 work experience. Working for the Canowindra Phoenix was a great learning experience. It helped me understand and appreciate how much work really goes into the free community newspaper each week. The highlight of my eventful week was the laughs shared around the office. Not only did I find a new appreciation for the industry and how much work is put into each week’s paper, I had a fun time helping out where I could and was always eager to start a new task. Everybody I met whilst working, were the most understanding and friendly people and I am extremely grateful I had the opportunity to work with each of them. Some of the work I was involved in included printing, proof reading and editing, social media posting to Facebook and Instagram and bundling and stacking the newspapers ready for delivery. I also walked along the Main Street to search for “Our Bloke” and ask the community the “Question of the Week”. Although the printing day left me with many paper cuts, I enjoyed every moment. I’d like to thank all the ladies who helped me have a better understanding of the work place. I’m glad to say I learned a lot during my time here. Overall, I am thankful for my experience and could not have been happier with my week. By Taylah Cahill
