ON THE COVER Tammy Evans' Grape Vine Mask, was the winner of the November "People's Choice" Award in the Guild Room. Evans is originally from North Wales and the Welsh ponies there may have inspired the name of her art practice, "Fat Pony Design." The focus of her current work is hand-painted gourds. The gourd masks incorporate other materials from nature, or inspired by nature; a variety of items like pine needles, feathers, horse hair, beads, etc. Her influences have come to include Native American art, an ongoing relationship with horses and being exposed to nature.

Art Without Borders Exhibit

Laurel Sherrie Guadalupe Dunes, Nightfall

The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe 2870 Grand Ave, Los Olivos

Laurel Sherrie: Call of the Wild, Paintings of California Wild Places Through Januray 5, 2017 A new show of art is on view and at the Los Olivos Café from November 3rd through January 5. The work is an engaging viewing experience, and the pieces are available for purchase by art loving collectors who may wish to acquire an inspiring painting. Laurel Sherrie paints landscapes of treasured places, sharing her passion for rural, coastal and wild areas of the Central Coast of California. Her work is known for rich color using traditional oils and lots of paint. She loves painting on location (plein air) in the quest for perfect light, and because it is a swift facilitator of the Muse, with the aim of capturing life as it exists at that very moment. A broad range of her work can be seen on her website: www.laurelsherrie.com Laurel Sherrie paints landscapes of treasured places, sharing her passion for rural, coastal and wild areas of the Central Coast of California. Her work is known for rich color using traditional oils and lots of paint. She loves painting on location (plein air) in the quest for perfect light, and because it is a swift facilitator of the Muse, with the aim of capturing life as it exists at that very moment. Laurel grew up near farmland and woods in a small suburb of Chicago. She’s been creating art all her life and was an art major in college. She traveled a lot, eventually putting down roots in rural Arroyo Grande, CA, which she and her husband share with a menagerie of birds, dogs, chickens and goats. “Fostering passion for and inspiring people to preserve our treasured rural and wild areas is one of my top goals for painting. I love these places and want to share my passion and vision, which I do best with oils on canvas.” Laurel forwards these goals as an active member of S.L.O.P.E. (San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment), who use their art to draw public attention and generate funds for preserving local lands. 8

Sharon Foster, Coastal Beauty

The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe 2870 Grand Ave, Los Olivos

Sharon Foster: Coastal Beauty

Januray 5, through March 2, 2017 A new show of art by local artist Sharon Foster will be on view at the Los Olivos Café. The work is an engaging viewing experience, and the pieces are available for purchase by art loving collectors who may wish to acquire an inspiring work of art. Sharon Foster is a photographic artist and long time resident of Santa Maria. She captures stunning photographs as she wanders through the hills and valleys of the Central Coast, seeking just the right play of light and shadow for her images. Although nature landscapes and architecture are her current interests, Sharon is always looking through her lens for artistic inspiration. Because the artist has developed her gift in the art form of digital photography over the years, she is able to change her masterful photographs into emotionally stirring works of art. Each piece is digitally enhanced so the majesty of God’s creation, that is so alive in nature, is reflected in a fresh expression of joy and wonder.

2ND SATURDAY ARTISANS

Members Collect Exhibit Needs Your Artwork 1511 Mission Dr., Solvang

Do you have an artwork depicting our tri-county region or by a local artist? The Wildling is looking to its members in the community to create an exhibition curated from private collections that feature artists and artworks of the Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura Counties. The purpose of this exhibition is to provide the opportunity for the public to see works of art that fit within the Wildling Museum’s theme that are not normally on public display. Since many of the Wildling members have fine personal art collections, we would like to invite those collectors to share their artwork with the community by participating in Members Collect on view from February through Summer 2017. If you have an artwork that you would loan to the Wildling for Members Collect, please contact Stacey at 805-686-8216 or stacey@wildlingmuseum.org. The Wildling Museum, where art and nature meet, offers visitors a unique perspective on the importance of preserving our natural heritage. Through the eyes of artists, education and field experiences, guests can renew their relationship with the wilderness and understand its fragile nature - hopefully leaving more committed toward ensuring those spaces remain for future generations. For more information, to volunteer and/or join as a member to support this important local arts and nature institution please visit www.wildlingmuseum.org.
