Kathryn Blackmun Pottery, Design & Illustration August 2010 mini-UPDATE Can’t believe it’s August already. I’m now free of the census after three months working as a clerk in their Santa Fe office. Trips to the studio became few and far between. But now I’m trying to catch up a bit on pottery and everything else, although I’ll miss many of the people there—and the money. I forgot to mention one of my new venues, the gift shop of the Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center, which has just set up this year in the Convento, a reconstructed mission off the plaza in Española. They’ve already had some interesting shows and hope to sponsor classes in a nearby building. Adding to the Española art scene in nearby Santa Cruz, Chimayó resident Kata Bennett is opening Galeria Santa Cruz y El Espresso in an authentic old adobe she’s fixing up across from the Santa Cruz de la Cañada church just off Highway 76 on McCurdey Road. The grand opening will have happened by the time you read this, and I have a few pieces there as well. I’m still working on farm and Sonoran desert plates and have been trying some goats and monkeys, and of course there’s still birds and cats and dogs. —Kathryn Blackmun Content copyright Kathryn Blackmun 2010.
