An introduction to the differences between how we see, as opposed to how we think we see, and how the camera sees. We’ll discuss how to reduce a scene to its essence and how to photograph the scene for impact. Armed with that knowledge we will walk around picture rich Santa Fe and study possible scenes and how we might see them in a new light. The remains of the day will be spent shooting no more than five masterpieces each. Day Two: We will view your digital results back at the studio where we will critique the results of your shoot.

 What were you thinking when you created your shot?  Did you achieve your goal?  If not, why not?  If you achieved your goal, how? (No negative critiques here, just positive feedback)  We’ll discuss cropping for maximum effect.  We’ll discuss time of day, direction of shadows, shade vs. sunlight and people vs. no people in the shot.

BIOGRAPHY Before I was educated in the art of seeing at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, I worked professionally as a journalistic photographer. Participating in the art of Dave Robinson commercial photography brought me awards for my magazine and CD covers, posters and ad campaigns. As owner of one of Seattle’s top photo studios I was asked by many of my clients to push past the accepted image of the day and to create a new way of looking at the advertising world. I was pleased to provide those services to Microsoft, Boeing and others. I’ve taught photography in Seattle and exhibited in galleries as well as participated in site installations. My photographs have sold around the world. I’ve Window Light been a selling contributor to charities and fundraisers. I’ve been the president of photo clubs in Seattle, Washington and Orange County, California. I continue to be part of discussion groups, but the most exciting thing to me these days is to push my own personal visual boundaries. ARTIST STATEMENT With roots in Photo Journalism and large format photography I’m finding new challenges that come with the freedom of working artistically and creatively with today’s photo imaging techniques. My concepts become real when I close my eyes and let my imagination run wild. My work is an expression of that imagination.

Note: we will not discuss equipment but will learn how to get the best pictures possible out of the equipment that you have.
