DECLAWING AD
DEAR EDITOR: While I understand the selling of ads is what keeps the Daily Sound in print, please consider the content before printing. The recent ad purchased by ABC Veterinary Hospital for discounted declawing of cats is an outrage. This surgery is a barbaric mutilation of the cat’s feet and is completely unnecessary. The practice is illegal in 25 countries, but sadly not in the USA which seems to be the land of the entitled and selfish. When two people marry, it is “for better and for worse� and not with the intention of surgically altering their partner for convenience or for the sake of their furniture. Adopting a cat also comes with this promise along with food, shelter and GOOD veterinary care. Any veterinarian who still performs this surgery, whether it is by amputation or tendon laser cutting, should be shunned and reported to the Humane Society of the US which is against this horrid practice. I hope you will consider pulling the ABC ad, as word on the street is that it is scheduled to run for several weeks. Marci Kladnik Catalyst for Cats, Inc. board member

DEAR EDITOR: I am speechless that such and ad for declawing cats would be advertised anywhere in this country especially Santa Barbara. I would encourage you to read about what declawing is and the cruelty behind it before subjecting yourself and your paper to the outrage that is forthcoming....I don't care how much money the Daily Sound received to run such and ad....it is unethical in any way to support such a cruel surgery on cats. LEAP OF FAITH
DEAR EDITOR: According to the tea-party and assorted Republican propagandists (often recycling talking points of the ubiquitous Heritage Foundation), the economic crisis our country faces today began with President Obama's allegedly anti-business policies and overregulation of the financial industry. The Wall Street “job creators�, who have outsourced tens of thousands of jobs to China, India, Mexico, etc., bear no responsibility whatsoever. Amazing!

FYI - The Heritage Foundation is a right-wing "think tank" whose website homepage features photos of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Burton Pines, a former Heritage Foundation vice-president, stated its mission in a 1986 article in Atlantic magazine “We’re not here to be some kind of Ph.D committee giving equal time. Our role is to provide conservative public policy makers with arguments to bolster our side. We're not troubled by this.� To give credence to these untroubled zealots one would have to believe it was President Obama who created the deficit by giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 2% of our citizens, concurred with former V.P. Dick Cheney that deficits don't matter, and spent billions of dollars (off the books) not finding WMD in Iraq or Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. One would have to believe it was too many “job-killing� regulations on the coal mining industry that caused the deaths of 29 West Virginians at the Upper Big Branch Mine in April, 2010. One might also believe professional wrestling is a real sport and Fox News is real news. These are leaps of faith no self-respecting American should be willing to take. Robert Baruch Goleta
