RIGOLETTO GIUSEPPE VERDI
SUMMER 2017: MAY 31 JUN 6, 9, 14, 18m, 22, 27 • JUL 1
A curse shatters the lives of the hunchbacked court jester Rigoletto and his innocent daughter Gilda. This fast-moving tale of seduction, betrayal and bitter revenge overflows with magnificent melodies and intense dramatic action. With its startling contrasts of villainy and tenderness, Rigoletto is one of Verdi’s most memorable creations. Three widely heralded artists lead the cast: rich-voiced baritone Quinn Kelsey, praised by San Francisco Chronicle for his “effortless power and vibrant color,” dazzling soprano Nino Machaidze and tenor Pene Pati. Maestro Nicola Luisotti infuses this classic masterpiece with “breathless urgency” (San Francisco Chronicle).
