Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

The Somerdale Human Relations Commission held it’s annual Day of Service event on Saturday January 14th at the community center. Our goal was to make two hundred bags of food for the homeless. Lawnside Shop-Rite donated all of the food and supplies needed to fulfill our goal.

Brianne Siderio brought her students from the

Somerdale Park School Community Service Club, and Cristin Butler had her students from the National Jr. Honor Society. Mayor Passanante was on hand to start things off and HRC members Lucia Gershman (Chairwomen) Catherine Brooks, and Tyiesha Scott were there to lend a helping hand. When all of the bags were full and ready, they were transported to Pete’s Pantry where they would be distributed to the homeless the next day. When your community comes together for such a great cause, it makes you proud to be a part of it. I’m sure if Dr Martin Luther King Jr is looking down on us, he is proud too.
