Indian couple shot dead in Philippines MANILA: An Indian couple was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne gunmen in Camarines Sur province of the Philippines, the media reported last week. The victims, killed in the Bicol region in Luzon island, were identified as Bahagwantsingh Buttar, 45, and his wife Jaswinder Kaur, 36, reported news tabloid Tempo. They were residents of San Bartolome in Sipocot town of the Camarines Sur province. According to a report in Journal online, the victims were on their way home when they were repeatedly shot. The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies, causing instantaneous death.

On economic and social issues Gabbard belongs to the leftist wing of the Democratic Party, but she is closer to Trump’s policies on fighting terror while avoiding foreign interventions and this makes her a prime candidate for the presidentelect’s efforts to reach out to his opposition. Media reports said she may be under consideration for defense or foreign policy position in Trump’s government. A major in the Army National Guard, Gabbard has served two tours of duty in Iraq. “I saw firsthand the cost of war, and the lives lost due to the interventionist warmongering policies our country has pursued for far too long,” she said after the meeting with Trump who has criticized United States military entanglements abroad. ortuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who has an Indian origin, will be the chief guest at next year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the foremost conclave of the Indian diaspora. “Antonio Costa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal, has accepted an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to be the chief guest at the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention to be held from January 7 to 9, 2017, in Bengaluru,” the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement. “He will participate in the inaugural session of the PBD convention on January 8 and address the delegates,” it stated.
