The Shameful Office The work of Carlijn Voorneveld (1986, the Netherlands) is a combination of live performance, installations and performance-based photography and film. Fascinated by the theatrical aspect of performance, she researches the way people relate to one another. Voorneveld developed The Shameful Office, in which shame and discomfort deserve a stage as much as success and self-confidence. The work is not about avoiding the feeling of shame. Most people think of social discomfort and shame as something that connects us, instead of something that divides us. It demonstrates people’s similarities rather than their differences. Based on this philosophy, The Shameful Office develops concepts and projects, standing up for social inconveniences and oddities.
