HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES (HDFS)

Objectives:

• To develop an understanding of various aspects of development across the life span, and the structuring and functioning of families. • To demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of individual and family development across the life span in diverse contexts and changing environments. • To demonstrate an ability to evaluate and apply research and theory to practice and policy. • To analyse processes, policies, and contextual factors that affect the delivery of human services to individuals and families. • To demonstrate professional, ethical, and culturally sensitive standards of conduct. • To demonstrate knowledge and competence in helping, leadership, and administrative skills for human services.

Scope:

Areas of education, community development, behaviour and family therapy, family and social policy, human rights and family ecology in R&D (Research and Development), Teaching and Education sector, Development sector, Social Work in government and semi-government organizations and NGOs. Possibilities for entrepreneurship ventures exist in education, development of play and learning materials, special education centres, professional development and training organizations, behavioural and family health, family services, community services and care homes.

Eligibility Criteria for selection in Specialization in HDFS:

• Students should have secured 2.5 CGPA (in semesters 1-4) with 60% marks in foundation courses of HDFS and 80% attendance till 4th semester. • Students must have studied and passed English with good result in semesters 1-4. • The eligible candidates will have to qualify in written test and interview. Selection will be conditional on availability of seats.
