Zero-Proof Flavor Non-alcoholic drinks that are as artfully crafted and delicious as the real thing
The Ritual at The Moon’s Daughters The mocktails at this indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge at The Thompson San Antonio – Riverwalk are just as worthy of an Instagram square as its traditional libations. The Ritual, which is made to mimic the look of a Texas sunset, features blood orange, ginger, lemon and a zero-proof gin that brings just the right amount of juniper. 115 Lexington Ave., themoonsdaughters.com
Prickly Pear No-Jito at Down on Grayson This virgin take on a mojito gets a San Antonio twist thanks to fresh prickly pear. It’s mixed with lime juice and mint and makes a refreshing companion to any entrée. The Pearl-area eatery also offers a craft lavender lemonade that can be ordered sans vodka, a spicy blackberry limeade with fresh blackberries and jalapeño, a strawberry basil smash and a cucumber melon refresher, each priced at just $5. 303 E. Irish Coffee at Hash Vegan Eats SA This all-vegan restaurant on the South Side is alcohol-free, meaning mocktails are its specialty. Try an Irish coffee made with Tumbleweed coffee, oatmilk, coconut whipped cream and Ritual Whiskey, which is a zero-proof spirit replacement meant to provide the oak and caramel taste of whiskey without the buzz. Prefer something cold? Opt for the Miche-Nada alongside a vegan potato and egg taco. 5007 S. Flores St., hashveganeats.com
ocktails may be the buzz word for patrons practicing a dry, or sober, January, but Pharm Table chef Elizabeth Johnson says it’s more appropriate to call them zero-proof cocktails. After all, she says, just as much craftsmanship goes into curating those non-alcoholic drinks as into any typical bar libation. And while there certainly is an uptick in sober living each January, she and others in the industry say they’re also seeing more demand for non-alcoholic drinks throughout the year.—KATHERINE STINSON
