The Anti-Mall ario Guajardo understood when he launched Broadway News in 2018 as a hub for local makers and businesses that it was a new concept for San Antonio. Just more than three years later, his vision for the “anti-mall,” as he calls it, has not only gained a loyal fan base but also has grown into a second concept nearby, Pink Hill. The new collective—founded by Guajardo, Bronte Treat (of Lunchroom Anxiety) and Paul Hunt—is located in a former paint warehouse and is home to entrepreneurs like AWOL Vintage, Relyt, Bob’s Photo plus

food trucks Slap Chicken and Pound It. Pink Hill offers weekend-only hours for now and boasts a cocktail bar led by Campbell Dobbs (formerly of Hoppy Monk). “It’s the same DNA as Broadway News—it’s very organic, very independent,” says Guajardo, whose Richter Goods anchors the Broadway News lot. It’s named Pink Hill for the tiny Texas hometown of O’Neil Ford, the architect behind Tower of the Americas, who cultivated spaces the Pink Hill founders admire. “As the city is changing, it is more important than ever to champion small, independent businesses and brands,” Treat says.—KP
