SUSTAINABLE BICYCLE STORAGE

Brief - To design a bike storage unit for a suburban

house in Bristol. The unit needs to store the bicycles outside of the house so that bicycles are no longer a trip hazard in the hallway. The unit needs to be secure so that it has maximum protection and deterrence against criminals.

Bike Bunker - 3 month individual project. A front

garden bicycle storage unit for the urban home in Bristol. Storing two bikes and the bins outside of a house.

LINKAGE MECHANISM

SUSTAINABILITY DENIM INSULATION

RECYCLED HDPE

The roof opening mechanism is the stand out feature of Bike Bunker It opens an elegant and sophisticated manner which brings enjoyment each time you see it.

Low impact materials have been used to lower the carbon footprint that Bike Bunker has on the environment. As the world is becoming more economically conscious products need to be designed to be as low impact as possible.

SPICE SHAKER

Brief - The aspiration of this assignment is to take

something from your own existing portfolios of ideas and get it into production. The project will take you through the creative and analytical process of transforming your product concept in to an exciting business proposal. The aspiration is to use this project to get you an interview or investment from that potential company.

Otto - 6 week group project. A spice shaker designed to encourage home cooking and for users to make and create there own spice blends.

GENERATIVE DESIGN

Brief - Using Grasshopper, create a generative table

lamp. This lamp must have the ability to be 3D printed without support. The lamp should be based around a theme but not be too literal that it becomes an unattractive product.

Aranealux - 4 week group project. A table lamp design around a spiders web and the way in which water droplets settle on the web.

INSPIRATION

DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT

KEY LEARNING • Removal of horizontal lines making it • Removal of droplets at base and top 3D printable. so that it sits flat on table and in the printer. • Loft adjustment to make attractive form. • Setting up a voronoi on a 3D surface. • Addition of randomly placed water droplets.

• Getting voronoi to correct density so look attractive.

TOPOLOGY OPTIMISATION

Brief - You are to create a single product that is either mechanically/structurally optimised in some way for both performance and mass manufacture. The design approach will be based on one of the following themes, Tensile or hanging structures, Bending or Folding, Topology optimisation.

Topobar - 4 week individual project. Topology

optimised mountain bike handlebars. Designed to be the lightest and strongest on the market.

INITIAL IDEAS

TOPOLOGY PROCESS

BSI TESTING STANDARDS

The forces used for the testing of bike parts are displayed in the British Standards Institution. These are the load cases I will be applying to the mountain bike handle bars. There will be three load cases applied to the bars with a support being where the headset fits into on the bike handlebars.
