SME SPARTANS Samtec Microelectronics recently sponsored a team for the Colorado Sprint Spartan Race in Ft. Carson, CO. The Spartan Race is an innovative obstacle course race created by Joe DeSena, a world-class adventure racer, and there are more than 130 of these races around the world annually. On the same fields that some of our nation’s finest have prepared for battle, over 6,000 participants competed at the Colorado Military Sprint the first of May at the Fort Carson Army Base. It is the only Spartan Race in the US that is hosted on a military base, and the obstacles were designed by the 4th Infantry and Special Forces units. A Spartan course is normally 10 miles riddled with signature obstacles like mud, barbed wire, walls, rope and fire. Given the venue, this race had a military twist including Special Ops variations where overcoming obstacles is part of their job to fight for our freedom. Even though only one SME Associate had ever ran a race before, not only did our entire team finish the race, they finished 20th out of 166 teams. Members of the SME Team included Nicole Wilder, Nicole McGraw, Kennedy Knutson, Desiree Hansen, Caleb Strickland, Sean McClellan, Michael Sanders, Austen Knapp, Chris Cleveland, Aleksey Johnson, and Mario Chacòn.
