T SAMFORD, our 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio is more than a number. It’s a promise that, when you step into a classroom, you matter. Whether you’re in the front row or the back, in a lab or art studio, doing original research or performing music, gazing heavenward in the planetarium or competing in the gym, your professors challenge and support you. At Samford, you’ll meet professors like Anthony Overton (biological and environmental sciences), who works with Bulldogs for Biodiversity to support the health of the Cahaba River. Or Dana Daniel Blake (physical therapy), who accompanies students on mission trips and faith-based camp experiences. Or Randy Todd (classics and philosophy), who tailgates with students during Homecoming year after year. Our faculty know you. They listen to your hopes, pray with you and guide you at the intersection of faith and learning.

STRENGTHENS Your education at Samford gives you the depth and breadth of knowledge to navigate a changing world. Our comprehensive Core Curriculum grounds you and puts your learning into action. You can delight in great literature, discuss ethics in business and public health and connect to a legacy of Christian faith.

P R E PA R E D T O L E A D During his second year, Samford alumnus Bill Mouchette ’23 asked his professor, Jeremy Thornton (Associate Dean, Brock School of Business), about career paths in economics. Dr. Thornton crafted a tailormade independent study that helped Bill understand how economics can support real communities. Their wide-ranging conversations gave Bill the confidence to ask big questions about what faith calls him to do with knowledge.

These questions led Bill to groundbreaking research that earned him a grant from the American Enterprise Institute’s Young Scholar Awards Programs—one of only six awarded nationwide in 2022.

s t e p p i n g f o r wa r d Since graduating, Bill has begun his career as a business development analyst. He is now continuing the work he started at Samford—to promote the success of others with confidence and faith.

Samford is what college is supposed to be. I was challenged not just to learn new ideas but to understand them. Here, we’re invited to an education that calls us, in the words of Micah 6:8, ‘to

SEEK justice, LOVE mercy and WALK humbly.’

Lucie Lott ’23 chose Samford because of its reputation for caring support. Diagnosed with dyslexia, Lucie can see things in ways others can’t. But to make the most of that superpower, Lucie knew she would need a close-knit community and an advocate to support her. She found that advocate in Dana Basinger. Since their first meeting in a freshman focus group, the two have been a team, working together on everything

from Lucie’s schedule to her professional development. Now, Lucie—who was told she would never get through high school— graduated with a Samford degree and is pursuing a future where she can use mentorship and leadership to guide others. Mentorship at Samford means opportunities for undergraduate research, meaningful internships, and forged relationships with leaders in your field. Most importantly, it exemplifies the deep connection between faith and learning.

#1 in student engagement mean for you?

T

HE WALL STREET JOURNAL ranks Samford #1 in the nation in student engagement, a measure of “how engaged students feel they are with their professors, their peers and their education” and a valuable predictor of success after graduation. At Samford, student engagement means even more. It means profound connection. It’s your voice strengthened with ours in the hush of prayer in Reid Chapel and the roar as we cheer the Bulldogs to victory. It’s the 154,000 square-foot wellness center being built on campus, our profound investment in your physical, mental and spiritual health. It’s in the devotion of those who keep our campus safe. It’s the traditions you’ll return to long after you graduate. It’s in every moment that reminds you your passion can lead to greatness.

FAITH that

ACTS At Samford, we live out our faith in everything we do. Faith shapes prayerful moments in chapel and shared song that uplifts others. Faith connects the classrooms where we discuss ethics to leadership positions where our alumni make real change. Faith invites us to the wisdom of the Gospels and to service projects as far away as Malaysia and as close as Birmingham. Action strengthens our faith and spreads God’s love. It builds community by showing us what we can achieve when we come together in common purpose. It gives each of us the chance to grow as people, and to become the leaders we are called to be. We learn to be leaders who work for the joy, safety and wellbeing of others. And we learn to be leaders who act everywhere they go as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.

LUNA MORA Senior Entrepreneurship Marketing and Data Analytics

Samford’s campus community offers you endless ways to get involved and grow as a leader. Luna Mora, a fourth-year student at Samford, found kindness, generosity and a family spirit in every corner of campus, from close friendships to her meetings with President Beck A. Taylor. Walking through campus during Lighting of the Way—with everything lit by candles, the words of the nativity story hanging in the air and Samford’s Christmas tree on full display —Luna felt the warm bonds of shared faith. During Global Connections in the

spring, she explored food, music and activities that represent every continent. That spirit inspired Luna to become president of Samford’s Latino Student Organization, the first organization to unite Latino students on campus. Luna and her fellow officers make sure it is open to everyone, offering another important way to bring the Samford community together.

Jansyn Gordon ’23 faced a dilemma: A valuable internship in Birmingham and a study abroad opportunity in Spain, both at the same time. Leaders on campus recognized the value of both and worked tirelessly to make them possible for Jansyn. That’s how she found herself in Spain for a month, living with a wonderful host family and taking classes that challenged her plus returning home to complete an internship that set the course for her future. Now Jansyn is beginning a master’s program and will start a full-time job with the company that hosted her internship after completing graduate work. Her study abroad experience and internship prepared her to launch a career in international business and help Spanish speakers navigate the financial system.

Since 1841, Samford has propelled its graduates to career success of all kinds. For Isaac Cooper ’12, the classroom and the football field both prepared him for leadership roles as CEO at IMC Financial Consulting and chairman of the board of directors for the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Isaac has benefited from the relationships he built at Samford, finding connections to top leaders in the state through Athletic Director Martin Newton, gaining advice about staffing from Dr. Betsy Bugg Holloway at the Brock School of Business and receiving guidance on leadership from President Emeritus Andrew Westmoreland. As a CEO, Isaac makes sure everyone has access to trustworthy financial information, regardless of income. And as Chairman of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Isaac forges innovative partnerships with Apple, NASCAR, PGA and others, advancing an institution that honors Civil Rights leaders who found
