Program Notes: Winter ice, so cold, it bites and saps your stregnth with all its might. So beautiful, it freezes your stare while the arctic winds blow through the air. Once I heard the story of The Little Match Stick Girl, this was the music that began playing in my head as I imagined the poor girl walking through the wind and snow on a dark winter's night. I chose to write this piece for the alto flute due to its dark and soul filled timbre.
