EDITOR’S NOTE
I
n this issue of the Digital Arts Yearbook, we celebrate the overflowing and uncontainable happiness we feel with the title: BLISS. Herein, we tackle topics on
making the world colorful, destressing, simple things that make us happy, and the DA student must-haves. We also got a bit more creative and listed innovations which can be useful for iTamaraw digital artists. Basically, things that lead to that perfect happiness. If you were to ask me about my most blissful moment as an iTamaraw (other than passing my thesis defense, of course), I would definitely answer: putting up this yearbook. It was not all rainbows and butterflies. External elements blocked our way into publishing this yearbook (yes, I’m talking about how the weather was very mean to us and the very limited time we had, among other reasons), but I firmly believe that the best victories are those conquered and fought hard. That’s

basically what happened here which is why I am immensely glad about it. All these would not have been possible with the effort put in by the enigmatic team lead by Mave, Angge, Sam, Ela, Gio, Albert and Fe and I am beyond thankful for them. The pages of this yearbook are crafted with the fulfilled heart and the enormous passion of the students involved in this project and I hope you feel it too as you turn on each page. And may the happiness exuded in this yearbook be conveyed in you as well.
ADVISER’S MESSAGE
F
inishing school is one of the best feelings. However, remember that there are better things and heavier burdens ahead. It may be the
fulfillment of giving back to your family, learning a new hobby or traveling to your dream destination. In the same way, your thesis is not your biggest struggle in life nor your break up with your lover in your teenage years. It is a guarantee that you are now an educated person but it does not mean you that you are truly a good person. It may sound like a contradiction to the principles of our education system, but we are not defined by our degree. At the end of the day we will be judged on whether we have been a good person. Be caring, be loving, be understanding, and be kind to your family, friends and even those who have hurt you. Be the better person than you are today.

/blis/ Bliss – just uttering the word already makes you want to smile. In the simplest terms, it means perfect happiness; under the constant state of joy, happiness, and delight. Nothing more best describes the Digital Arts Batch 2018 graduates. After years of hard work and constant sleepless nights, we have f inally reached our goal. That one goal that each of us had muttered as a f reshman stepping into FEU Institute of Technology for the f irst time. “In a few years, I am getting that diploma.” Now here we are. Nothing else can be felt but the feeling of bliss.

REMINISCING W H O D I D YO U WA N T TO B E ?
It’s kind of weird to think that we’ve already lived in this world for two decades now. Time runs really fast, eh? A moment ago, we were little kids smudging our crayons on every surface we can get our hands on. Can you still remember how hard your hands were pressed on the pencil the f irst time you used it? The scent of that baby cologne on your perfectly ironed uniform? The lunchbox that contained your favorite snack? Ah, goodness, it’s unbelievable that we are so near to ending our journey at school. Now don’t f ret – we are not here to fuss about being old but rather taking a ride on a time machine to reminisce our childhood days, particularly on that time we once dreamt of being someone.
and sweet treats were a trend. These were the only things that drained our energy. Activities such as role-playing developed our imagination and perception of the world, and we dreamt of simple things with great impact. Some of us wished to f ight for our country, while some of us wanted to keep our family healthy. Certain experiences were the root cause of the highly-attainable dream. May it be due to our parents’ influences or someone else’s, we remained positive. We were too young to care about the opinions of others. We were just f ree to do our own thing and be someone that we really want to.

As a child, superpowers, imaginary f riends, colorful toys,
But unlike Peter Pan, we grew up. Some of us stayed true to their promise and pursued the career f rom their childhood dreams. Most of us grew out of our younger preferences and developed other hobbies, resulting to taking a whole new path. Others followed their parents’ decision. Despite of our various back stories, we eventually learned to love the path we took. More than the technicalities, methods, and creativity that we’ve acquired and shared, we learned to be passionate in what we do - and that’s what kept us going. We encountered each other and formed a relationship that would ultimately describe our colorful college experience. Thinking we once dreamt to become doctors, teachers or even soldiers, who would have thought we would cross paths? It’s probably because we were made to f it in the same color palette as others – you can call it an achievement, fate, or serendipity; one thing I know is that we are exactly where we’re meant to be. Our dreams are further beyond the ones we had in preschool, but they surely are attainable. We’ll continue to bring color to the world as we reach our goals beyond the four corners of our institution. Who knows when we’ll meet a kindergartener who’ll dream of becoming to be just like us too?

Sweet, religious, and friendly; Jhaztin Namit definitely owns these lovable traits. She’s an introvert, but once you get know her, she won’t be hesitant to show you her jolly side. Jhazz is known to be a very good listener - she listens if you vent out on her. Her advices and compliments will definitely lift you up. When it comes to her studies, Jhazz would set standards in everything that she does. She might be “OC” at times but she makes sure to put quality in all her works.

Her lifestyle has been influenced by her Japanese roots, which is why her hobbies include watching shounen anime while digitally painting, reading mangas, or playing videogames with her friends. She may be deemed as a lazy person sometimes, but she remains passionate in what she does. Jazz is also an obedient person who really pays attention to detail in every requirement or rule, making sure that she produces an output that meets the exact criteria.

A lover of the cuter things, any person would love to have her by their side. That’s Gelai for you; very much like a cookie indeed.

His close f riends would describe him as a kind and caring gentleman. He’s that f riend who would do everything he can just to see you smile.

Sweet like a songbird and tiny like a teacup puppy - Paulane Altoberos is one lovable person. Endearingly called Lane, she exudes simplicity like a modern Maria Clara. As her close friends can tell you, Lane has matured a lot over the last 4 years. Now she’s an amazing leader, is more confident and speaks her mind. MAKING THE WORLD COLORFUL With the hectic schedules and hellish deadlines in college, the world right now — let’s be honest, is a pretty bland place to be. It’s our job to make it feel like a livable and happy place. Like a worldrenowned painter to his colorless art, people decide on what they have to do to lighten-up the vibe in this stressful world. So the question remains: How do we make the world a colorful place? Let’s start with The Simple Ones. You know — the things one can do to make people around them feel good. We’re talking about the instances where one likes to wear colorful shirts and other accessories. This will literally make the world a tad bit colorful. When you think about object. A colorful mural, for example, can influence people to help the community, thus making it a wonderful place to be in. Now we move on to The Complicated Ones - or as I like to call them, the grade conscious or GC-ish types of activities. Tasks that require a lot of skill and time, that it takes a certain type of person to accomplish it. These acts have high costs leading to high rewards. An example of this is animating a motivational short film in order to influence people around the world in making it a colorful place. Pretty cool right? Or something like creating inspirational artworks — something us young adults can do in order to have a say in a certain social issue. People f rom Batch 2018 had many ideas on how to make the world less dark than it is right now, and make it a more saturated one. People from this DA batch have an idea of what colorful means, and my God, do they know how to make the world a colorful one. Well, most of us thought of ways that only DA people can do — like influencing others through our own art. Few of them thought of simpler, more specific ways, like improving, and making their website more colorful for others to see. Some even thought of sharing their art style to everyone who is in need of a fundamental one. Be it The Simple Method or The Difficult Method type of activity, it would still matter. With all of these things considered — all these tips said — it only comes down to us. It’s only up to us to make this floating space rock a fun place to be in. Share ideas that can influence others to be kind to each other. Make artworks that can change a person’s perspective. Do simple things that can only change the world by a little bit, but when done by many, can change the way it revolves. You might be the most artistic person in the world, but if you don’t share your gift to others, then you’re just a speck of RGB compared to this grayscale Earth.

I
cannot think of anything except for a fact that we all know what we need as digital arts students. We demand “these”
and “that”, we need “those” in order to do “that”. You know after reading, you’ll know exactly what I mean. You, my creative fella, know what you need – what we all need as artists in order to give our audience our fascinating work of art. But let me, just let me enumerate things that digital students need. Not in terms of gadgets – but what attitude you need. Here are the attitudes, behavior or actions DA students must have and the reasons why they are important.

Patience, patience, patience. Remember when I said that you need a laptop that has to be reliable? Because we all know that some of us cannot afford expensive laptops with great specifications and sometimes, life will test your patience as a digital arts student. You have to keep up as you progress. You will encounter bugs, blue screens and even worse, hard drive malfunctions. Remember, it is not always perfect. So keep up! Be patient. You’re going to get there.
CRITIC SKILLS It is not being too hard on you or onto others. When you create something, always give criticism to your work. Once, I looked back on my previous artworks, and to be honest, I cringed. I would ask myself, “Is this really me who did this?” “Why would I pick such color for this” “Why did I use such font?” Funny, but it only shows that I learned and grew as an artist. Now remember this, when someone gave your work criticism, do not take it personally, thank them because it only goes to show that they want to help you improve with your skills and discipline.
PASSION
This is important; however, passion isn’t enough to push us to the career or the life that we want on its own. We can convert it into process that could lead us to success such as: commitment to our goal, discipline with the process and the eagerness to learn.
The point is our must-haves as digital arts student does not only revolve around the gadgets that we use. We need laptops, PCs, cameras, and good specs of gadgets, sure. But we also need creativity, critic skills, and most importantly, discipline. That my f riend, completes the picture.

Hey. With all the things I want to ask you, I don’t even know where to start.
Is life the same as how they promised it would be? Is investing 17 years of our life in school really worth it? Do the numbers ranging f rom 1 - 100 and 0.5 - 4.0 really dictate how one’s future will go? Some say it would, some say it wouldn’t. Being there now, does it really make a difference?
Counting the remaining days before I step into the ‘real world’ (as they would like to call it) there’s this unending battle within myself about fully understanding my own passions, interests, countless self-assessments, what I can do, where I am going, how I am going to get there, and why I am even moving forward. I’m beginning to think that f inding the answer to these are not even achievable but hey...take heart. As I am conf ident that my heart beats, I know you may have already found the answer to these crucial questions. But if you haven’t, read on.

All effort spent in school is all about f inding our strengths; mastering and applying them. Our parents that used to take care of us? It’s your turn to care for and love them unconditionally. It goes without saying that they will get sick and be in need of assistance, may it be for the smallest tasks such as reading and feeding themselves. You will be expected to help them and you should. I hope I don’t have to remind you that you will miss them. Never forget to express your love to them even with the little things: combing their hair, helping them choose their clothes (most especially mom), tease them, travel with them, live your life with them knowing it will end. This sweet and tragic mindset will help you cherish your family time. Remove all hardness in you and just love the family your were born with. Just love them (or else, consider the regretful life spent accepted).

Ever heard of those silly stories added after, “When I was a student like you...”, “I remember when I was young, my f riends and I...”? I studied to connect with people and have something to look back on. Now that you’re working (I hope you are), I pray that you never stop growing with people. It will help you get through the tough times. Got that? ‘Why are you putting effort in anything?’, it’s so you will make the best out of your time and to never let your negativities, nor other people’s ever stop you f rom trying. Remember those hardships you went through? Yes, congratulations because you passed all of them! Thank me for not giving up in life no matter how tempting it was! Haha!
In return for the efforts of your old self (that’s me), I also want you to be reminded that you don’t have to be pressured f iguring out your future (or if you even have one). Though you may still be worried about that now, don’t be af raid of taking the steps. You have a future. Even if you don’t know it. That heaviness have not left, pulled and locked us long enough. Aren’t you tired? Don’t you want to just do your best and see what happens? I’m having that same toxic thought now but here you are, reading this message. If this is even possible, that means I did have a future; so do you. My last tip for your survival, dear future self, is to always, always have a thankful heart. While dissatisfaction is what drives us to improve, it never drives us to true happiness. I hope you understand that by now. Never stop loving and growing. Never attempt to erase the f irst ten, even twenty years of your time. Trample on the fear and heaviness knocking on your door. For making it this far in life, is a miracle itself. And that miracle is still ongoing. ;)
