Meet Model Aida Gueye How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. I started modeling about two years ago. I got into it because people from all over would randomly approach me and ask me if I modeled. I was stubborn at first because modeling was something I never thought about pursuing. Then, I decided to take chance “for fun” and it took off from there. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Yikes. I’d say ambitious. Personable. Independent. What do you enjoy the most about modeling? What I enjoy about modeling is the fact that I am able to get in touch with different sides of myself! I think it is so important to truly learn who you are. I have learned so much about myself since I began modeling. What do you not enjoy about modeling? What I don’t enjoy about modeling is that as a melaninated model, I come across situations where people do not know how to work with my skin nor do they understand how to translate my features on film. But I always say to myself, no opportunity is a wasted one! You learn and you move on. Favorite color? Yellow Favorite food? I love African food! I would definitely say Djollof rice from Senegal. What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? I’d love to walk for Tsemaye Binitie in New York Fashion Week. His clothes are so elegant and bold. Who would you love to shoot with? I have so many favorites. Definitely Edward Enninful, the newest editor in chief of British Vogue.

Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? This is a question I ponder about almost every day. One thing about me is that I am always strategic. I am always thinking ahead and trying to put myself in positions to reach my goals. The honest answer to this question is, “I don’t know.” I enjoy the corporate world, as I am currently working in the forensics field. I also enjoy Human Resources which is what I am currently getting my master’s degree in. But I also enjoy modeling! I know at some point, I am going to have to make a choice and I pray on that every often. Ultimately, I just want to live my purpose in happiness. That’s the most important thing!

What’s your theme song? “Formation” by Beyoncé. Every time I listen to it, I feel empowered.

Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I literally have screenshots of all of the places I’d like to travel to. Gosh, there are so many beautiful places in this world! I’d love to go to Asia and South Africa.

Your idea of “happiness” and/or your idea of “misery” My idea of happiness is to live in your purpose while helping others either find theirs or motivate them.

Your zodiac sign? Gemini Favorite superhero? Why? I would say my mom. I love her to pieces. She is so selfless! What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? Besides my parents who I love, I would say Beyonce. She is absolutely amazing. Other than her music, I am really drawn to her work ethic and how she uses her platform to motivate young women like myself. I learn a lot through her songs including the value of hard work. I also love Lupita Nyongo and how stunning and intelligent she is! What’s your favorite quote? “I dream it, I work hard, I grind till I own it” -Beyoncé

What is your favorite body part? I like my lips. What do you do when you are not modeling? When I am not modeling, I am either working, finishing assignments or being social somewhere. Favorite movie? Get Out has definitely climbed its way to my top list. Favorite actor/actress? Viola Davis

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I would learn how to speak another language. Probably an Asian language. Guilty Pleasure? Rice Last book you read? Matthew Kelly’s Resisting Happiness Anything else you want the readers to know about you? Hey guys! I want to say thank you to all of those who continue to support me. I didn’t necessarily see myself pursuing modeling at all and I think the positive feedback I have received, helped me to excel, so thank you! The journey continues. I am not sure what is in store, but you won’t be disappointed! Follow Aida on Instagram @aida_tmodel
