John E. Ellis, OD ’90 celebrated the 20th anniversary of his Connellsville, Pennsylvania practice this past June. Dr. Ellis purchased the practice in 1993. It had been founded by PCO alumnus, Edward F. Fitzgerald, Sr., OD ’24, and had only one other owner prior to Dr. Ellis’s purchase.
Joseph M. Haggerty, OD ’00 is enjoying life in Milford Pennsylvania with his wife, Lisa and two children, Meghan Elizabeth and Ryan Matthew.
Dieter Mattern, MSCO ’00 was awarded the Gold Award of Honor in March for 20 years of volunteer service by the Central Association of Optometrists (ZVA) in Jena, Germany. Tracy Carpenter Sepich, OD ’91, MS ’91 passed the American Board of Optometry certified exam in January. Dr. Sepich serves as vice president of the Mid-Counties Optometric Society and is a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association Clinical Care Committee. Gregory Caldwell, OD ’95 was elected to the Board of the American Optometric Association (AOA). Dr. Caldwell, who is past president of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association (POA) and an adjunct instructor at Salus PCO, was sworn in at the June AOA Optometry’s Meeting in San Diego. The husband of Dana Gjurich Caldwell, OD ’95, Dr. Caldwell’s brother is James M. Caldwell, OD ’89, EdM, current dean of Student Affairs for the University. Carl J. Urbanski, OD ’92 was recently appointed to the State Board of Optometry by Governor Tom Corbett. Mira B. Swiecicki, OD ’96, FAAO was highlighted in the July AOA magazine as an OD “making a difference.” She is Washington State’s 2012 Optometrist of the Year.
John C. Miles, AuD ’01 and Janet K. Snyder, AuD ’03 received the President’s Award at the American Hearing Aid Associates Convention (AHAA) in Las Vegas this past February for their practice, Hear Well Audiology. Kurt Finney, OD ’02 received the Virginia Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the Year Award in 2012. Robert Di Sogra, AuD ’03 is the new chairperson of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the University’s Osborne College of Audiology (OCA). Dr. Di Sogra has also been lecturing on campus to OCA students in Dr. Tracy Offerdahl’s pharmacology class on a variety of topics, including ototoxicity, adverse drug/herbal medicine reactions and the efficacy and safety of over-the-counter tinnitus relief products.
David M. Werner, OD ’04 and Melissa Szafran were married on June 4, 2013. Dr. Werner is the chief optometrist, head optometrist in charge of medical at Eyeland Optical. After a two-week honeymoon the couple returned to their new home in Laflin, PA.

Monson, III, OD ’06 was featured in an article published in Z Community Sites for his volunteer service with the Lions International of North Carolina Screening Vision and Hearing Van. Pamela D. Keenan, AuD ’09, owner of McDonald Audiology and Hearing Health Care in Grand Rapids, Michigan recently launched a website redesign. (www.mcdonaldhearingservices.com). Christine N. Schellin, AuD ’09, FAAO, owner of Silver State Hearing & Balance, Inc of Reno, Nevada, added a blog to the practice’s website to help share hearing health advice with it’s community.
Kathy A. Foltner, AuD ’03 received the President’s Award from the American Academy of Audiology at AudiologyNOW! this past April. This award was in acknowledgement of her ongoing leadership role on the Practice Compliance Committee. Janet K. Snyder, AuD ’03 and John C. Miles, AuD ’01 received the President’s Award at the American Hearing Aid Associates (AHAA) convention in Las Vegas this past February for their practice, Hear Well Audiology.
Suzanne Parker Bulakowski, OD ’07, FAAO and Ryan K. Patel, OD ’07, FAAO were elected to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina State Optometric Society. Dr. Parker was recognized as North Carolina Young Optometrist of the Year.
Lori Gray, OD ’04 was highlighted in the Young ODs section of the July AOA magazine. Jonette B. Owen, AuD ’04 was recently appointed to serve on the PA State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language and Hearing. Dr. Owen is the coordinator of External Clinical Education for Salus University Osborne College of Audiology.
Jaime R. Lanois, AuD ’07 was recently appointed to the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. 17
