Welcome to the Salem Art Fair & Festival Presented by Spirit Mountain Casino and produced by the Salem Art Association, the Salem Art Fair & Festival has become the premier summer event in the mid-Willamette Valley and is now one of the nation’s top-ranked art festivals. We thank you for joining us to celebrate the arts, our local heritage and the future of our cultural landscape. These are important bonds that help maintain the health of our community. This program, created by Salem Weekly in close collaboration with the Salem Art Association, details the exciting activities that await you. There truly is something for everyone: fine art, functional crafts, kids’ activities, good food, craft beers, regional wines, and music by the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and Grammy-nominated blues artist Ruthie Foster, among other talented music groups. On the pages that follow, you’ll find photos of the work of nearly two hundred participating visual artists to help you make those hard choices. Be sure to stop by the Bush Barn Art Center for Sculptural Conversations: Works by the Pacific Northwest Sculptors and live sculpture demonstrations on the adjacent lawn. And don’t miss the (Women Photographers) exhibit at the Bush House Museum. The Salem Art Fair & Festival is the major fundraising event of the Salem Art Association. It also benefits more than sixty other nonprofit organizations. Your attendance and purchases support SAA’s community arts education, gallery exhibitions and heritage programs throughout the year. Please visit the SAA booth on the main pathway for more information, and visit us online at www.SalemArt.org.

Did y o u k n ow . . .

The Salem Art Association (SAA) is a 501©3 non-profit arts organization that has been actively dedicated to providing arts and heritage programming in the Salem area for 93 years.

2

SAA provides art instruction to more than 14,000 students in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties each year. Without this service, many students would have no exposure to arts education in public schools.

3

SAA offers free-of-charge, year round art exhibitions at the Bush Barn Art Center. A minimum of 18 exhibitions include local, regional, national and international artists in three galleries and our gift gallery.

4

SAA operates the Bush House Museum, which was built in 1878 and houses an impressive collection of art, furniture and personal items belonging to the historical Bush family. The museum is further unique in that its interior has never been remodeled or renovated. The inside of this historic home remains just as it was more than 100 years ago when it was built.

5

SAA designs its services to meet the evolving needs in our community. Recently, this has meant developing a High School Arts Program that provides students mentoring opportunities with professional artists. SAA also has created Project Space, a temporary site in downtown Salem providing local and regional artists a space and forum to create, discuss and display experimental artwork.

6

The Salem Art Association has organized and hosted the Salem Art Fair & Festival (SAF&F)for 63 years. This one-of-a-kind event features art, music, hands-on kids’ art activities, local food and craft beer and wine. Fairgoers experience 200 artists’ booths, two music stages, more than 20 food booths and displays from more than 30 local arts organizations.

7

The Art Fair Sourcebook ranks the SAF&F as 11th in the nation out of nearly 1,400 art fairs and festivals. As a result of our excellent ranking, top-tier artists from around the country (and the globe) bring their fabulous artwork to Salem for everyone to enjoy and purchase.

8

The SAF&F is SAA’s main annual fundraiser which funds our community programs. SAA also receives support from sponsorships, grants, membership dues and donations. By attending the annual Salem Art Fair & Festival, you’re directly supporting the Salem Art Association and its ongoing community programming.

9

The Salem Art Fair & Festival is made possible in part by the generous support of our presenting sponsor, Spirit Mountain Casino. The SAF&F is also supported by more than 50 other sponsors, including Kettle Foods and Maps Credit Union. These sponsorships are an integral part of fostering arts in our community. We appreciate your support!

10

SAA thanks you for attending the Salem Art Fair & Festival. Without you, the SAF&F wouldn’t be one of the most fun and successful events in the Mid-Willamette Valley. You are the reason SAA has been a part of this community since 1919 and your support will allow us to continue to serve our community for years to come. Thank you.
