HUMANITY beyond BOUNDARIES

international humanity newsletter Ahmad Safe’i Ridwan Head of Salam UI 22

Protector: Allah SWT

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh,

Adviser: Banu Muhammad H.,M.S.E

Talking about humanity then we're actually talking about the nature of human. Allah created many creatures in this world which divided into the visible creatures and invisible creatures. The example of visible creatures are stone, water, planets, etc.

Person in Charge: Head of Salam UI, Ahmad Safe’i Ridwan

Human is Allah's creature which has more advantages than the other creatures. One of these advantages is Allah has given the humans mind and grace. Not only brain to think but also the grace to distinguish which thing is good or not. Therefore, humans always be paired with humanity.

Project Officer: Sarah Tsabituddinillah Editorial Chief: Annisaa’ Fitri Nurfirdausi

Simply, if there's some disaster in a region then we can say that region need humanity help. Or if there's some harrasments or harmful deeds towards other people, then we can say he/she violates the human rights. So, the humanity is like a mirror. The humanity is not only owned by some certain groups, religions or nations.

Finance: Nurma Yunita

But, if there's something out of reason, out of humanity happens then it will violate the human rights. Then, humanity is not only has mind but humans also has to humanize the other humans. If someone is placed in some uncomfortable situation then she/he will be worried. Then because of his/her feeling then she/he doesnt want the other people feel the same.

Contributor: International Bureau of Salam UI 22 Salam Palestine and International Center of Salam U 22

Looking into the condition of the world today, we will see many out of reason deeds. The example is Palestine. The issue of Palestine not only talk about Islam but talk about all religions. It's enough to be normal and sane people to see the condition of Palestine. Also the other countries like Xinjiang, Rohingya, Suriah, until amandment constitution of citizen in India.

Then, in Islam, Islam arranges human's life in entire day, like 24/7 of how to act, speak, etc. These things are because of Islam really respect the humanity. Islam is a blessing to the whole universe. That is all, I apologize for all the mistaken and hopefully this International Humanity Newsletter can give benefits as wide as possible for all of us.

Wallahu muwaffiq ila aqwamith thariq, Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh.

What’s Happening in Kashmir? Monday, August 5, 2019, the Government of India through the decree of PM Narendra Modi removed the status of special regions of Kashmir and Jammu through the revocation of Article 370 in the law. Kashmir itself is the Himalayan region that has been contested by India and Pakistan where the majority of its citizens of 67% are Muslims in the middle of a minority in India. The contents of chapters 370 allow Kashmir to have its own autonomy, flags themselves, and carry out government affairs alone, except for foreign affairs, defence, and communication. According to the article, Kashmir may make their own rules regarding residence, property ownership, and basic rights, including prohibiting Indian people from outside the state for buying property or settling there. With the repeal of Article 370 resulted in Kashmir now directly under the central government, just like any other Indian state. PM Modi reasoned that the revocation was an attempt for Kashmir to integrate into India. Additionally, the revocation of the chapter was also a promise of Modi's campaign in the elections several months ago. However, there was a speculation that the decision was a transfer of the issue of economic problems that India experienced during the reign of PM Modi today.

7

Spontaneously, the decision got a lot of pro and contra reactions from various parties. According to the constitutional expert, Subhash Kashyap, it is constitutionally healthy and there is no fault of the law and the Constitusi in it. However, the opposite reaction came from the Rajia Sabha party of MPs, P. Chidambaran. He said that this (repeal of article 370) was a catastrophic step and had serious consequences. As for Pakistan, as a country that contested for Kashmir, criticised it violently and considered it an illegal move. Imran Khan commented, "The outcome of Indian action would further trigger fires in Kashmir, as they witnessed their undetachable rights, taken by brutal forces. As a form of anticipation for the insurgency that was feared to be happening in Kashmir, the military forces were deployed and the foreign tourists there were encouraged to return to their respective home countries. Not only that, some of the leaders of Kashmir were also imprisoned, among them Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. During those times the school was closed, the Internet and telephone service were blocked, and a curfew was imposed. Reported from daily Aljazeera, picture besides is one of the printed daily News that was successfully published because it was difficult to publish the news.

Then, what is behind the hashtag #RedForKashmir? A #RedForKashmir that is crowded on social media in some countries is a call to demonstrate solidarity over what's happening in Kashmir, India. According to an activist and journalist, Makhdom Shahab Ud Din, this hashtag will be viralized to give global awareness of what is happening in the region. The hashtag is used for every post about Kashmir and some of the social media users replace their profile picture with a red background How will Kashmiri citizens celebrate Eid al-Adha? Reported from Aljazeera Daily which was accessed on 8 August 2019, a business man named Ahmad (who only gave his first name), said that they will not celebrate the Eid day. “We are mourning. Muslims in the region are being punished, under a well-planned conspiracy

The Dutch Government Officially Prohibits Use Burqa or Niqab and Balaclava The Dutch government announced officially the regulation about the Prohibition of the Use of Burqa, Niqab and Balaclava (full face helmets), including sky mask in public places, hospitals, schools, and public transportation such as trains and trams. The police of dutch also announced guidelines for employees in government offices, schools, hospitals, and public transportation were expected to ask people to remove that face coverings or leave that places. They also said that people had to take off their face mask to enter the police station. This regulation was announced officially starting on August 1, 2019, according to the Dutch Minister of home affairs, Kajsa Ollongren will be evaluated in the next three years. This law was previously criticized that this law is directed towards Islamophobia. The Draft of the regulation about the Prohibition of the Use of Burqa, Niqab and Balaclava (full face helmets) was proposed by anti-Islamic politician Geert Wilders supported by Minority Government and Cristian Democrat in 2005. In 2016, the Dutch Parliament debated The Draft of the regulation about the Prohibition of wearing headgear in special public areas (such as schools, hospitals and public transportation). D66 party (middle-wing politician), Fatma Koser Kaya opposed the proposed restriction and said that such legislation was unnecessary because many

9

institutions had banned people from wearing the burqa, niqab and other headgear. The consequence of the ratification of this regulation is that Muslimah who make the Burqa and niqab as daily outfit will need to be adjusted and constitute a form of violation of human rights in terms of applying religious dogma. In addition, if you violate this regulation, you will be fined â‚Ź 150 to â‚Ź 415 or have to take off the burqa, niqab or Balaclava. There are many respons from various parties is as follows. a. Police The police regretted this regulation because the police could not receive reports from women wearing burqas, niqabs or balaclava. b. Parties which pro with Islam and human rights Muslim and human rights groups have called for opposition to regulation that mention a partial ban on face covering. Muslim groups highlight that the ban on the burqa and niqab as actions that truly target them. The Nida Party and the Islamic Party in Rotterdam will pay fines for anyone who violates this Law in other words will pay fines for Muslim women who continue to use the niqab and burqa.

Both parties open accounts for anyone who wants to donate to pay this fine. c. Anti-Islamic Party Anti-Islamic politician, Geert Wilderswelcomed this and regards the day of ratification of the Act as a historic day which is also expected to apply to the Hijab. This was written in his Twitter account. d. Government Expert One of government experts, Zwart said that he hoped that international oversight would lead to the repeal of the regulation. He noted that the Council of the UN Committee last year had decided that France violated the rights of two women who wore the niqab. Not only Ducht but a number of countries in the world have also banned the burqa or niqab. France was the first country in Europe to ban the use of burqas in public places. After that, Belgium in 2011 also introduced a regulation prohibiting the use of headscarves that cover the entire face or veil in public places. Whoever violates will be put in jail for seven days or pay a 1378 euro fine. Is action of the Dutch Government right? A country has full sovereignty over the territory and one of the regulations regulates the Law as a product. In making a regulation, there should be a through academic of how the impacts would arise if this law applies. Then, the Government should look more at philosophical grounds (reasons or considerations of life outlook, awareness, and legal ideals), sociological basis (regulations established to meet the needs of the community), and judicial basic (rules established are for overcome legal problems and fill the legal vacuum for the sake of legal certainty and community justice) which also considers the psychological aspects in it from the Bill, including paying attention to all Dutch society and their human rights. In this case, there are Muslims who use the niqab and the burqa. They use the outfit as a form of implementation of the dogma of Islam and make it a habit in their life.

What can Muslims do in other countries about this? Muslims in other parts of the world can increase the solidarity as a fellow Muslims, position themselves when in this situation, and realize that we have human rights as religious people in carrying out and practicing our religious dogma. In addition, we can also donate and spread the news about this to other Muslims. Palestinian Journalist Shooted By Israel's Army A journalist from Palestine, Muath Amarneh has got gunshot wounds at his left eye last Friday, precisely on November 15, 2019. This incident occurred when he was covering protests by the Palestinian people against Jewish settlements. When covering, Muath wears a bullet proof vest that says 'press'and wears a helmet. Muath was at a safe distance from the action when he suddenly felt something about his eyes. At first, he thought it was just a rock or a rubber bullet. But when he touched his eyes, he realized that his eyes had disappeard and he could not see because of that. This events that occurred at Muath drew sympathy from other journalists from various walks of life. Tearing pictures of people who close one eye to express their sympathy and as a form of condemnation of the behaviour. Secretary General of the International Journalists Federation (IFJ), Anthony Bellanger, condemened the shooting. Judging from international journalistic law, Israel's actions have violated the law because a journalist must not be hurt while covering. In response to this incident, the Isreali

government refused to admit that they shot Muath on purpose. They said that the equipment they use that is not dangerous. Muath's partner say that the doctor who treated Muath from the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem informed that Muath lost his eyesight because of a 2 cm long bullet. But the hospital did not dare to tell the truth and only started that Muath suffered 'serious injuries'. Based on the United Nations Plan of Action on The Safety of Journalists and The issue of Impunity states “Every journalist killed or neutralized by terror is an observer less of the human condition. Every attack distorts reality by creating a climate of fear and self-censorship. The UN (United Nations) Action Plan under UNESCO's Journalist Security and Impunity Issues aims to create a free and safe environment for journalists and media workers, both in conflict and non-conflict situations, with the aim of strengthening peace democracy and development. There was a strengthening of the UN mechanism in the plan. Therefore, the United Nations has the authority to

Humanity Today It seems that as the world moves forward, humanitarian crises increase. How come? Humans littering, humans burn forests at will that cause smoke for days, humans hurt animals to satisfy their pleasures, humans hurt other humans to achieve happiness, humans cheat to achieve success. How about this: Men who look weak, are blasphemed. Women become strong and mighty, considered strange. Young children ask lots of questions, arguably talkative. A husband and wife who do not have children become gossip material. A pair of lovers whose relationship is growing, cursed not lasting. The lecturer does not attend class without notice. And there are many more inhumane human behavior. And that behavior not only to fellow human beings, but also to animals and plants. Human feeling eroded because humans always look up, always feel less, and less grateful.

15

by: Dewi Najla Hazima

Why do I think that? Because, if humans occasionally look down, always feel enough, and are always grateful, then humans will not pollute the environment because of their ignorance, humans will not burn the forests that cause ISPA, humans will love animals as they love their loved ones, humans will not hurt other humans, humans will be honest to achieve success. Humanity is humanizing humanity. Acting like humans. The question is, how to act like a real human? And what does it mean to humanize humans? But, the more important question is how to instill and increase humanity in us? There are various ways that can be done, for example participating in social activities. By participating in social activities, we can see that our lives are better than those in need. We learn to look at others as equals, without regard for race and background. From there, arises sympathy and empathy in ourselves as well as gratitude for what we have today.

In addition to social activities, through discussion we can also nurture a sense of humanity. For example, having a discussion about an old woman who was severely punished just for stealing a cassava stick to eat. Or watch movies about humanity, such as Sexy Killers, Schindler's List, and Perpetua Audio. Humanity can start from small things, such as throwing trash into dust bin, feeding hungry cats, not smoking in public places, helping a blind person crossing the street, stopping vehicles when someone wants to cross the street, being silence if there are no kind words to say, and many more small things we can do.

thought "what if I'm in his position? What if I am treated like that animal? What if I am damaged like this environment is damaged? " Humanity is when we look at other human beings with the same degree and respect. Humanity is when we behave fairly. Humanity is when we do not damage the environment. And humanity is when we do not take the rights of the living things.

By:

Things that can grow a sense of humanity must be done since our childhood so that we become humane humans. However, that does not mean these small things can not be done by teenagers or adults who want to change for the better. They can. So, what exactly is the meaning of humanizing humans and behaving like humans do? Human beings are human beings who have sympathy and empathy. Man who has the

Humanity, is there still any of it? by: Arif Muhammad Rifqi Humanity What is Humanity? Is Humanity real? Or just a mere sayings?

Hasn't God given you enough already? Or is it you who couldn’t ever get enough? I don't know, only you can feel it I can only remind you

In a world full of absurdity With people full of ambitions Blinded by riches Who will do anything for money

I hope you still feel the humanity A feeling to consider human is a human That respect each lives Without see the race, country, or religion

Is there still humanity in your hearts and minds? O people Or is it drowned by greed? O mortals

As long as they are human Humanity is there with them It can't be taken away just like that By other greedy humans

Minds are such a dangerous weapons That will destroy people's rights Only for few people purposes For riches and power

I Hope humanity will never extinct Not only a utopia But a reality For every human in this world

You play with humanity You destroy earth Your littered space O human, what else do you want?

Conquer, fight, and separate.

Then, if humanity is turning down, hurting, even taking someone's life,

They say it's part of humanity. Can it still be called humanity? Curse, scream, and stroke. They also say that it's part of humanity.

Cambodia and The Things Beyond its Name by: Annisaa Fitri Nurfirdausi The clear blue sky was welcoming us when we arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (11/10/19). By now, Cambodia has became popular country to visit and some people say it's worth to be in tovisit list country. Its unique and 'traditional building, the culture, nature may have been the interesting thing for tourist to visit. And yeah, compare with Jakarta, Phnom Penh is much hotter. There was the most used transportation in Cambodia and it is Tuk-tuk. Tuk-tuk is like Bajaj in Indonesia but I guess it has more integrated system. It's also available in online application, Grab. The driver seems nice and familiar with all region that we wanted to visit. At least, based on my experience. But, sometimes the driver don't speak English but it's not really a big deal because when the destination is clear, then you're safe. And one more, the money. Cambodia uses 2 currency. It's US Dollar and Riel. I admit that it needed extra efforts to think about money, when we have to pay, and take some changes. But, again it's not really a big deal. The tuktuk hasn't been done yet. I and my friends usually take tuktuk for three of us and the baggage is enough to put our bag or even suitcases of ours. it's effective enough to go everywhere in Cambodia using Tuk-Tuk.

23

Actually, not only Tuk-tuk the transportation mode in Cambodia. There some others such as city bus, and even grab, there are some others. There are garb tuktuk, like what I told before, grab SUV, and grab remorque. City bus is also good to to be our transportation choice. But, me and my friends were hard to understand the route beside we don't have much time too to transport from one place to another because of our scheduled time. Grab SUV is basically like grab car but it's more fancy. Grab remorque is another uniqe transportation. It looks like a motorcycle pulls the cart with 2 face-to-face seats which can contains up to 6 people. In Indonesia, we're more familiar with that thing is called Delman. What about the road condition in Cambodia? The first thing I say is crowded but peaceful. The road is crowded mostly in the morning and at night. Most of them using motorcycle and some of them use cars. (red : fancy car). I have to tell you that you will see many fancy cars in Phnom Penh, like ferrary, tesla, etc. It's common thing there. Not like most of countries in Southeast Asia, the driver sits in the left side of the car. We even have to adapt ourselves about the side we have to walk on. And I mentioned peaceful, right? Yes, the road is less of sound pollution. I mean, not many drivers use klakson there. Even in the condition that “the drivers in Indonesia had used that horn.

The most peaceful thing in my opinion is when you walk around the border of the river. You must been acknowledge that Cambodia has Mekong River and it's considered to be one of the biggest river too. I would say it has to be in your “to-do list when you visit Cambodia. The river is really big until I guess I walked on the beach not river. Many chairs available too in the road near the border of the river. You sit there and look at the sunset, then your life is perfect. The night condition is also be a nice choice to enjoy the view. With the lights of the surrounding building, it was so peaceful. There were also some ships which on that ship there was a restaurant so you can eat on the ships while enjoying the scenery. The cost is around $20 per group per round. The night atmosphere of Cambodia always been satisfying. The night market were full of people, the park near the independent monument still full of the people with various activities, the road was still passed by many of cars and motorcycle. There was one night market which is full of 'wahana' and kinda look like we're in Las Vegas. It was so crowded, mostly with parents and children. It was decorated by colorful lamps and music with full volume. In that market there were also some restaurant/food trucks. It was good place for those who like crowd.

About the Halal Food, it's definitely available in Phnom Penh. It's usually in the certain areas and in the front of the shop/restaurant, there's logo 'halal'. One of the places is near our guesthouse. We stayed In a guesthouse near Al-Serkal Mosque. It is located near Phnom Penh Hotel and many halal foods you can find surroundings since Halal Food isn't like you find candy in the candy shop. Even the Ice cream! The drinks we drank during stay in Phnom Penh is mineral water and 'tebu' ice. And one thing I noticed about Cambodian Food is they really like something salty and sour. In every restaurant you'll more find salty soy sauce then sweet soy sauce. And the 'sambal'/sauce, they served it the more liquid form. and another interesting servings things is about the chicken. They serve it in a pieces of chicken. It's like you eat chicken steak. Overall, Cambodia is a perfect place for those who likes adventuring and make connections because the people were so nice, friendly and open to tourist.
