Each year Orthodox Christians around the world keep the fast in preparation for Christ’s birth beginning Nov. 15th and concluding with the reception of the Holy Eucharist on Christmas morning, Dec. 25th. During this fast we avoid eating all meat, dairy, eggs, fish and wine as well as those foods containing them. As with all fasting periods, we eat less, pray more and offer our confession. For questions of health or other concerns in keeping the fast, please see Fr. John.

Andrew Damick The normal Orthodox Christian – who is living according to the norms of the Orthodox faith – will be doing the following (this list is not exhaustive, not in order of priority, and not to be confused with what the “average” Orthodox does): (This is broken into four parts over four weeks)

Let Us Pray To The Lord! For The Health & Salvation Of: Archpriest Paul, Pdn. Michael, Dka. Leslie, Ann, Richard, Marie, Joan, John, Pauline, Maryann, Jan, Charles, Nadia, Mary, Joseph, Theodore, Lynne, Martha, George, Michael, Mark, Michael Contact Fr. John to add a name to the parish prayer list.

4.Avoiding Immorality. What we do with our bodies, minds and words has an effect on our salvation. Use them for good, not for evil. Seek to serve rather than to be served. 5. Fasting according to Church tradition. Your father-confessor will help to apply the fasting traditions of the Church for you and your family. We fast on most Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as during the four

major fasting seasons (Great Lent, the Apostles Fast the Dormition Fast and the Nativity Fast). 6. Confession. Confession is critical to our repentance. We should go…whenever there is a need, especially a sin that disrupts your peace. Note: Fr. Andrew is the pastor of St. Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Emmuas, PA. He has authored several books and blog articles, including this one from “Road to Emmaus.”
