Stamford, Connecticut Dear Parishioners: Has your summer flown by? It certainly has for me. I’ve found it to be a beautiful and spiritually refreshing time, and I hope it has been for you as well. One of the places I visited this summer was the Shrine of Knock in County Mayo, Ireland, where Our Lady appeared along with Saint Joseph, Saint John the Evangelist, and Our Lord, who appeared as the Lamb of God on an altar. The anniversary of the apparition is August 21st. I so appreciate all your prayers and devotion. That love we share in praying for and with each other is what makes our parish special—a true family in Christ. Please continue to pray the Rosary interceding through Our Lady for blessing, healing, and peace. Especially do so on the 21st–this Monday, and I will as well. We banished children of Eve will find our way to the Kingdom through the “New Eve” our Mother Mary. We share in heaven and in the work of the Kingdom, and in joining our prayer to hers–especially in the Holy Rosary–we fulfill our destiny. Please continue to pray for your parish in your daily Rosary, and offer this prayer on Monday: Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you give hope to your people in time of distress and comfort them in sorrow. You inspire countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise: “Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find.” Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen. Love and Peace, Fr. Liam Quinlan

While it is easy to say, it is often difficult to achieve. Sometimes, reconciling requires that we take down the barriers that are sources of division, remove our prejudices, look beyond differences, and see the "sameness" that connects us one to another. Of course, each party has to be willing to do this in order for healing to occur. Our Gospel shows us the healing that can occur when both parties are willing participants. RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS The Jubilee Year of Mercy is now in the history books and looking back I wonder if I have been changed at all by the observance. Certainly the focus on mercy wasn't all about God's mercy toward me? Yes, I focused on my sin and the need for God's forgiveness and grace, but hopefully that changed how I live my life and how I offer mercy to others. The mercy we receive from God is not something we are to keep bottled up or hidden from others. Jesus taught us to treat others the way we would like to be treated and to love everyone, even our enemies. When Jesus healed the Canaanite woman I wonder what she did next. I would hope she in turn offered mercy and healing to others. Of course, I know she was imperfect just like me so I am sure in no time she was back to needing the mercy of Jesus. Her demon was gone, but there is always a new evil around every corner. However, the fact that we are a broken people always in need of mercy does not lessen the command for us to offer mercy. Mercy is a gift like so many others that God lavishes on us with great generosity. We are called to cultivate this and share it with others as well. If we cannot do that then what was the real effect of God's mercy in our lives? If we do not allow God to change us into more generous stewards ready to offer mercy and love to all, then perhaps we are fooling ourselves that we are true disciples of Jesus at all.

Thus says the LORD: Observe what is right, do what is just; for my salvation is about to come, my justice, about to be revealed. (Is 56:1)
