Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) is a high school level specialization course in the PLTW Engineering Program. In CEA students are introduced to important aspects of building and site design and development. They apply math, science, and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects and document their work using 3D architectural design software. Utilizing the activity-project-problem-based (APB) teaching and learning pedagogy, students will progress from completing structured activities to solving open-ended projects and problems that require them to develop planning, documentation, communication,andotherprofessionalskills.

PassionProject

An opportunity for students who have always wanted to build a musical instrument, find innovative methods to solveproblems,andhavequestionsaboutatopicthattheyhavewantedto research independently. The Passion Project is a learner-centered, choice-based research project completed by students over a semester during their senior year. With standards rooted in Sagemont Preparatory School’s Educational Pillars, students develop strategies in inquiry, communication, and independent learning. Students utilize skills in information literacy, communication, collaboration, metacognition, reflection, and transfer. Through the developmental process of self-reflection, goal development, and relationship with an advisor, studentscreateprojectsalongsideapartnershipwithYouth&PeaceinActiontodevelopprojects thataddressareasofneedintheirlocalcommunity,aswellasglobally.

The mission of this course is to teach students to think independently, act with respect and integrity, and find joy in their learning.
