Our Educational Philosophy

Elated, thrilled, happy, exhilarated, joyous; shout a synonym for excitement, and each word paints a picture of how we feel as we launch into the 23-24 academic year!

Our phenomenal educators are ready to challenge each student and bring learning to life through analytical thinking, creativity, intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, responsible risk-taking, collaboration, and reflection. Through the application of our Educational Pillars, Sagemont Prep students are exposed to authentic experiences, challenges, and opportunities that prepare them to navigate the complexities of the real world. We live in an ever-changing world. Therefore, at the core of our educational philosophy is ensuring we prepare our students for what is known and unknown, rooted in the principles of entrepreneurship and innovation

Learning the principles of being an entrepreneur is not confined to starting businesses; it's a way of thinking – a mindset that values innovation, resilience, and a willingness to be a responsible risk-taker. Sagemont Prep’s focus on nurturing this mindset in all preschool through 12th-grade students sets our students apart. Our educators strongly emphasize cultivating innovation, and our students are provided the opportunities to identify problems, tackle solutions with their peers, and learn from their mistakes. Our educators recognize, value, and celebrate our students' individuality. In our work together, we embrace the diverse perspectives of each of our students and encourage them to express their unique ideas without fear of judgment. We value our students' voices, and this deep respect for their ideas and thoughts inspires them to bring innovative concepts to life.

To be a student in the Sagemont Prep learning community means you explore new approaches, make mistakes, and learn from them. Our students gain confidence daily because they are supported and cared-for by educators who appreciate and value their role in guiding thoughtful discussions, as well as working with students to uncover the meaning of each lesson. Our teachers create a safe and supportive environment where students can explore new approaches Through trial and error, our students bravely venture into uncharted territory, knowing that failure is integral to the learning process We grow together! This growth mindset also fuels our educators, who believe each year deserves dedicated and intentional attention to meeting each student’s needs.

As we embark on this new school year, we are excited to witness the growth, exploration, and discoveries that await our students, your amazingly resilient, dynamic, and caring children. Sagemont Prep is a fantastic learning environment that nurtures visionaries. Our students are encouraged to explore, question, and construct their own paths. When students are passionate and take ownership, deeper learning occurs. That’s the Sagemont Prep difference!

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education.

Sincerely yours in transformative educational excellence,

creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. This academic year promises to be filled with opportunities for exploration, reflection, and personal development.

This year, we are introducing new programs and initiatives to enhance the learning experience and cater to the diverse interests of our students. We look forward to seeing students compete in our new GLO-BUS Business Strategy Class, where students participate in a business simulation to create companies to compete in a global market arena. Students in the brand new Lean Six Sigma course will be working towards earning yellow and green belt certifications, giving them a highly competitive edge in the workplace environment, where they learn how to critically assess and problem-solve with efficiency and effectiveness as the overarching goal. Sagemont Prep will be the first and currently the only school in the state of Florida to offer students the ability to earn these certifications on campus.

All 9th-grade students will be working on TedEd talks in their English course as one of our Sagemont Prep Signature Projects. TedEd Talks is a program that supports students in discovering, developing, and sharing their ideas in the form of TED-style talks. This program creates space for students to explore, think critically about, and discuss ideas by utilizing a platform that helps students develop presentation literacy skills while connecting them to a global community. In addition, all 7th grade students will be taking the new Writing Workshop class designed to increase exposure to various literary techniques while developing their creative expression and personal writing style.

From volcanoes to glaciers, these academically enriching trips, with a focus on environmental science and culture, will be the experiences of a lifetime. Local programming opportunities include a community service component, and then an interest-based choice of a series of field trips related to marine science, forensic science, law, culinary arts, performing arts, and more.

Tera Sweeting, College Counselor

Sagemont Prep's College Counseling program never stops! We kicked off the 23-24 year prior to the first day of classes with our annual Senior Jumpstart workshop Senior Jumpstart aims to equip our students with the necessary tools and information to navigate all aspects of the college application process smoothly As the year starts, we are thrilled to launch into the 2nd year of the mandatory senior-year college counseling course This course is focused on the action-oriented process of the application season that includes final essay writing, interviewing, exploring scholarship opportunities, and of course, putting all the pieces together and applying. This year, we have added more instructional time to the course to allow our students to explore their pathways after Sagemont Prep and dive deeper into future planning. Through the yearlong course, I discover each senior's needs and help empower them to make informed decisions about the next step in their educational journey.

While our seniors are finalizing their college applications and applying to their dream colleges in the classroom, our 9th-11th graders will prepare for opportunities to explore their interests and partake in local college tours. High school parents, be on the lookout for more information. I love parent chaperones!

This year, I am thrilled to announce that we will have our inaugural Sagemont Prep College Expo Week, which will showcase guests from various areas of higher education, providing the fundamentals of the competitive application process. Our upcoming College Expo Week and other events will allow the entire family to explore future opportunities together, so be sure to join us on campus. Our partnership with the Princeton Review is quite strong, and we are happy to welcome back Princeton Review's Editor-in-Chief, Rob Franek, for a new workshop, Essays that Kick Apps! You do not want to miss this one! Through our partnership with the Princeton Review, we will conduct SAT & ACT tutoring on campus

While the upper campus students will explore colleges outside of Sagemont Prep, our lower campus students will begin to dive deeper and explore the future with college in mind I will be conducting future pathway workshops with the upper elementary students to establish an open dialogue about college, career pathways and explore their developing passions

As I celebrated my first year at Sagemont Prep this summer, I could not help but reflect on how supportive our parents are. This profession was always a dream for me, and I am now living and loving it. I am incredibly passionate about supporting all families, and I look forward to scheduling in-person meetings to plan together!

gemont Prep educators are committed o providing our students with the ssential skills needed to succeed. Take l. a moment and think of a young person in your life. What skills will they need in the future to achieve their hopes and dreams? You may have named a long list of social and emotional skills Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) provides young adults with the skills they need to thrive in school and life. This is why students, parents, and educators want SEL in schools. SEL is the foundation that helps prepare students for academic success, fulfilling careers, and healthy relationships while decreasing stress and anxiety. Socialemotional learning brings schools and families together to ensure every child has what they need to learn, grow and thrive

The good news is that you have chosen Sagemont Prep, and we know the importance of providing students with a robust tool kit for their road to success. The Advisory Program at the Upper Campus provides a strong safety net and a trusted support system that is key to providing a space for discussing important issues and helping students become invested in doing their part to create a strong and healthy school where they can flourish. The Advisory Program encourages a growth mindset and emphasizes reflective practices by allowing students to develop digital portfolios to document their learning process, which guides the annual Student-Led Conferences.

The Upper Campus is proud of student innovators who founded the Lion Table Talk program, where successful Sagemont Prep alums and experts in various professional fields share their experiences and demonstrate that working hard, being dedicated, and being motivated pays off. Speakers share stories about their chosen careers and their path to becoming incredible professionals. They also share about the hard times, the mistakes they made and then overcame with perseverance and grit The Sagem

Sagemont Prep guest speakers provide current students with inspiration and many life lessons.

The Lower Campus staff has been busy planning for the new year and is extremely elated about two new SEL curricula they have adopted: Second Step and The Zones of Regulation.

Second Step is a holistic approach to socialemotional learning for grades K-5. This enriching and developmentally appropriate curriculum will give your children the confidence to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others. The four enriched units cover Growth Mindset and Goal Setting, Emotional Management, Empathy and Kindness, and Problem-Solving. The program supports student engagement and elevates student voice and choice.

The Zones of Regulation is an empowering instructional tool to build safe, supportive environments that foster learning and wellbeing for all After the pandemic's detrimental impact on kids, many children struggle to manage their feelings and self-regulation. Schools find that kids need additional social, emotional, and behavioral support. The colorcoded zones provide an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside. When children are stress-free, feel listened to and understood, supported and safe, everything else flows, and we see relaxed, well-behaved, happy children This is a tiny sneak preview of the exciting things at Sagemont Preparatory Upper and Lower Campus this year. Stay tuned; there is much more to come.

T H L E T I C S

Sagemont Prep's Athletic Department has worked hard throughout the summer months, prepping, improving, and implementing new opportunities as we continue to enhance the athletic experience for all of our student-athletes Before we talk about all the initiatives and programming we will offer during the upcoming school year, let us take a minute to reflect on our success from 2022-23!

Our women’s golf team yet again dominated in South Florida, winning the district and regional team championships, while standout sophomore Ariana Silva finished the year ranked #1 in the state of Florida for all female golfers! The men’s basketball team won the school’s 3rd state championship, while Tynan Becker was selected as Player of the Year and Coach David Roe as Head Coach of the Year in Broward and Dade! Our men’s baseball team had an incredible run and broke the school’s single-season win record but lost a heartbreaker in the regional tournament to the eventual State Runner-Up. Finally, we celebrated nine senior athletes who signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level!

We are excited to announce the addition of several new programs this year The women’s volleyball program is expanding by adding a competitive elementary team. With a revamped roster, the varsity squad worked hard all summer and was ready to hit the court on August 18th in the Sagemont Prep Preseason Classic. The fall season will also include middle school and high school flag football teams, and our swim program is growing by the minute. During the winter season, our cheerleaders look to return to the competitive stage while our elementary basketball team returns to the competitive level. Finally, we aim to add women’s beach volleyball and men’s varsity volleyball options during spring.

ANo matter your child’s passion, we hope they decide to join one of our athletic offerings this year. We believe many core values like integrity, commitment, self-discipline, sacrifice, and sportsmanship can be learned through athletics All important information can be found on the Athletics page under the Student Life tab at www sagemont com As always, follow us on Instagram @sagemontprepathletics and be on the lookout for emails with updated information throughout the year. GO LIONS!!!

Welcome new and returning students and families to the 20232024 school year! As the Technology and Innovation Coordinator serving students and staff on both campuses, I look forward to continuing to support the integration of technology and innovation in our everyday learning. We are so excited for all that is to come this school year with Technology and Innovation. Here's a little glimpse into this school year:

You will see an expansion within our VEX Robotics ecosystem, virtual reality, and artificial reality immersive learning programs across both campuses Beyond scientific and engineering ideas, VEX promotes creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problemsolving among groups This will allow us to uniform our elementary through high school curriculum. Many colleges are also using VEX, which will allow for an easy transition for those who wish to take robotics to the next level. Students might imagine a world in which they can be motivated by the thrill of hands-on, mind-on STEM learning and the sensation of creating something with technology using VEX curriculum. We also look forward to competing using our VEX programming at the Lower Campus this year. We will be completing this competition with the help of our very own Upper Campus Robotics students! We are so thankful for the 2023 Sagemont Prep Gala and all the generous donations received to make our vision a reality!

I am also excited to announce the continuous growth of our Technology Internship. As you know, this past school year, I had Miguel Moreda, now a senior, as my intern It has been fantastic having him by my side We continue to grow this school year and will welcome new students to our internship program

This year we continue our laser focus on becoming an Apple Distinguished School. Last year our entire elementary faculty became certified Apple Teachers. Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of leadership and educational excellence, demonstrating Apple's vision for learning with technology. Apple Distinguished Schools are known to be some of the most innovative schools in the world. Nicholas Castre, Class of 2017

Undergraduate: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration University of Southern California

Nicholas is currently the Director of Operations at Fugazi.

Life After Sagemont Prep:

Life after Sagemont Prep has been a whirlwind of new and challenging experiences, each serving as a catalyst for my personal growth and transformation. After graduating from USC's business school in 2021, I went on to work at Louis Vuitt

Vuitton as a Supply Chain Analyst. For nearly a year, I immersed myself in the intricacies of optimizing supply chains, learning and absorbing as much as I could.

Following my time at LV, I became the Director of Operations for Fugazi, an up-and-coming luxury streetwear brand. Hitting the ground running at Fugazi, we brought a new collection to life, which debuted at our inaugural brick-and-mortar store in West Hollywood. Following the success in Los Angeles, I find myself barely a week into living in New York City and working meticulously to bring together a novel collection and retail space, aiming to carve our presence in the fiercely competitive NY fashion scene.

How did Sagemont Prep ignite your passions?

Reflecting on my time at Sagemont Prep, I'm reminded of the solid foundation of education, curiosity, and a passion for learning that was instilled in me. These qualities have been the driving force behind my achievements and my ability to embrace new challenges with open arms.

Words of Advice:

Take those risks, especially when you are young and full of energy As time goes on, more responsibilities pile up and can make it trickier to dive into new things. Do not be afraid to try new things and fail; failing means you’re trying. Always work hard and give it your best shot, but do not forget to have fun and enjoy the present moment. Most importantly, build strong, genuine connections with people. These relationships will help you more than a degree or fancy job title ever could.

Sagemont Prep Staff Inspiration:

Definitely, Coach Roe. Not only my teacher but also my basketball coach. He instilled that competitive fire that came from the high-pressure dynamic of basketball and showed me how to channel it into all aspects of my life. The way he put up with me (and trust me, no small task) demonstrated his belief in me and urged me to become the best version of myself I am grateful for his guidance and support that I continue to seek to this day.

Nicholas started Sagemont Prep in 8th Grade!
