“I will show you fear in a handful of dust” - Re-Wilding The Waste Land is I Fagiolini’s creative response to T.S. Eliot’s groundbreaking poem The Waste Land (100th anniversary in 2022), mixing music for voices with the poem and mindful of David Attenborough’s ‘witness statement’ plea to Re-Wild: musical desolation flowers into a subtly positive outpouring of old and new music.

George Gershwin Concerto in F
Antonín Dvorˇák Symphony No.9
“From the New World”
An Outdoor Overture was written in 1938 for young musicians to perform and is a beautifully lyrical example of Copland’s work. Gershwin’s Concerto in F was written in 1925, one year after the hugely successful Rhapsody in Blue. It uses jazz styles within it that we all recognise including a bluesy slow movement featuring the trumpet, a cakewalk and ragtime elements. Dvorˇák’s everpopular New World Symphony, full of American folk tunes and the famous Largo brings SWSO’s season to a dramatic close.
