My advice to young people entering the profession: Do anything you can to work in a law office or other legal setting before choosing the profession in the first place. What you see on television or in the movies in no way matches reality.
The most grueling part of my job: Trying to keep up with the ever-changing health care system.
The most gratifying part of my job: When disputes can be leveraged into opportunities for both parties to improve their ongoing working relationships.

If I were not practicing law, I would be: A professional athlete. I’d just need to grow a few inches, put on 50 pounds of muscle and be good at something.

After a tough day, I decompress by: Still working on that.
I chose this area of law because: I was fascinated by the constant evolution of the health care system, and when the opportunity arose to practice in that area, the choice was obvious.

In regard to my work, I am most proud of: The people I work with in my office and the positive results resulting from collaborative divorce and mediation.
In regard to my profession, people would be surprised to learn that: My wife and I are in a partnership with a winemaker and his wife, and that there is a 46acre sports complex in Elk Grove named in my honor.
The most gratifying part of my job: Helping couples divorce in a civil and respectful manner.
The most grueling part of my job: Dealing with attorneys who are focused on the problems and not on potential solutions.
After a tough day, I decompress by: Going home and having a glass of wine with my wife.
My advice to young people entering the profession: Find a mentor and take as many continuing education classes as possible.

My advice to young people entering the profession: Please become lawyers knowing that you are joining a noble cause. It’s an honor to serve clients and your communities; do not treat this as a regular job. Try not to enter the profession to serve your own interests; serve others first, [and] I promise success will inevitably follow you.
The most gratifying part of my job: Responding to human needs. I realize the legal profession is not about creating a market for yourself but instead responding to the human need and bringing relief to my clients when they are going through emotional and legal turmoil.
