Types of Barcodes Barcodes are optical representation of data about a product including information about its manufacturing, place of origin and other information like pricing and stock availability that might help in inventory management. To say that barcodes have revolutionized stock management and inventory detailing is not an exaggeration. There are many uses of a typical barcode that include a quick reading time, lesser training time, reduction in human errors, and most importantly, reduction in overall strain to know details about a particular product. Barcodes are also easy to design and print and can be printed on almost any surface with clarity. Based on the design type, barcodes might be classified thus One dimensional One dimensional or 1D barcodes are used to represent data by varying the widths and spaces between parallel lines. Because they use linear or one dimensional lines, they are called one dimensional barcodes. They are the most common types of barcodes including the one commonly used on products in super markets and other commodities. Two dimensional Two dimensional barcodes move from linear lines. They represent data using symbols and shapes but can represent more data per unit area. Two dimensional barcodes are fast gaining popularity due to excessive data stored. Two dimensional codes include matrix barcodes often used in advertisements, magazines and business cards. They are flexible in size, have high fault tolerance, fast readability but require special scanners. They can include numeric, alphanumeric, binary and Kanji data. Online barcode companies like SA Barcodes generate barcodes for sale, including barcode numbers and options to buy barcodes.
