Woman jumps off Metro stairs in suicide bid in Greater Noida, hospitalised GREATER NOIDA A 35-year-old woman attempted suicide by jumping off the stairs at the City Centre Metro Station on the Dwarka-Noida Blue Line here on Saturday, but escaped with minor injuries. The woman, identified as Upasna, was admitted to the district hospital, police said, adding that she refused to talk to police about the motive. Two mobile phones, passport and other documents have been recovered from her purse. Police said the woman was a divorcee and was living with her parents at Rajouri Garden Delhi. When a police team reached the house, it was found locked, a police officer said, adding that Delhi Police have been approached in connection with the case.

I just smoke cigar, what about those who suck others' blood: Ashish Joshi on his removal from DDC

NEW DELHI Ashish Joshi, who was removed from Delhi Dialogue Commission as member-secretary for allegedly smoking cigar within office premises, on Saturday said that he only smoke cigar, unlike those who suck others' blood. Speaking to ANI, Joshi said, “Main toh bas cigar peeta hoon, unka kya jo logon ka khoon peetey hain (I only smoke cigar, but what about those who suck blood of others).” He added, “What I do in my personal life is not related to my work. As long as I don't consume cigars in office, its no one's business.” Meanwhile, BJP leader Nalin Kohli in Joshi's defence said, “I don’t know what kind of ground is this to remove an officer. This doesn't seem to be a genuine ground.” According to reports, DDC vice-chairman Ashish Khetan had written a note to DDC chairman, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stating that despite polite exhortations not to consume tobacco within office premises, Joshi continued to smoke cigars and consume tobacco.

PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan held at Kolkata airport by Immigration Department, MHA intervenes

NEW DELHI Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Shahryar Khan has been detained in Kolkata airport by the Immigration Department on Saturday. But Ministry of Home Affairs intervened in the matter to clear his documents for immigration. According to reports, the PCB chairman was detained as he landed directly at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport without proper immigration papers. As per the travel rules, he was supposed to enter India via Delhi. Yesterday, media reports confirmed that Shahryar Khan will arrive in Kolkata on Sunday to meet BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya with a proposal to organise a cricket series between the two fierce sporting rivals at a neutral venue. Earlier on Tuesday, an optimistic Khan said, "From what I know the Board of Control for Cricket in India is also willing to play the series with us but now everything is in the hands of the Indian government." He was expected to fly to Kolkata from Dhaka to meet his Indian counterpart Dalmiya and other key functionaries of the Indian government to propose a series in the UAE in December. "I am going to India because it is important to have talks with the Indian board officials including Jagmohan Dalmiya as he would now be well versed with the MOU signed between the two boards for playing the series in December," Khan had added. The former diplomat had visited New Delhi soon after Dalmiya took over as BCCI President earlier this year but couldn't meet him face to face but he met with BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur. The last series between India and Pakistan was held in 2012-13 when Pakistan visited India for a three-match One Day International and two-match Twenty20 International series. Pakistan had won the ODI series 21, while the T20 series ended 1-1. It was Pakistan's first cricket tour of India in five years, after the infamous Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, which stalled all bilateral ties between the two countries.

Lok Adalat in Delhi settles 1680 cases, Rs 77.50 cr awarded

NEW DELHI A total of 1,680 cases were today settled in which over Rs 77.50 crore were disbursed at the national Lok Adalat organised by Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA). According to the DSLSA, 32 benches were constituted in the six district courts here which disposed of 1,536 cases. The focus was on cases pertaining to Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) and settlement amount of approximately of Rs 7.76 crore was awarded. It said that Lok Adalats were also organised in all three Debt Recovery Tribunals which disposed of 14 cases and settlement amount of Rs 69,22,18,707 was given. The authority said that Lok Adalats were also organised in the district consumer forums in which 29 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 41,94,523 was awarded. "Moreover, Lok Adalats were also organised in Company Law Board in which one bench was constituted where 73 cases were settled and settlement amount was approximately Rs 20,43,500," a release issued by the DSLSA said, adding that 28 cases were also settled in Lok Adalats organised in Revenue Department. "Total 1680 cases were settled today in which settlement amount was approximately Rs. 77,61,53,145 and there would be no further appeals," the release said.

Students delegation urges Arvind to open new colleges in Delhi University NEW DELHI A joint delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) on Sunday met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over issues faced by students and demand for new colleges. The delegation comprising of Saket Bahuguna, state secretary of ABVP, state joint-secretary Satender Awana, DUSU president Mohit Nagar, vice-president Parvesh Malik, secretary Kanika Shekhawat and joint-secretary Ashutosh presented memoranda to the chief minister and demanded immediate measures to solve students` problems. The delegation told Kejriwal that no new college has been started in Delhi University (DU) in the last 17 years. While the population and number of applicants have been rising at a fast pace, the number of seats has remained the same.

"New colleges should be started in the university to increase the number of seats. The Delhi government should initiate steps for formation of new colleges, especially in the farflung and rural areas," Bahuguna said. Highlighting the high rents charged by the landlords especially from outstation students seeking accommodation while studying in DU, the delegation requested the chief minister to implement the Room Rent Control Act at the earliest to stop this exploitation. It also demanded that students be provided with university special (U-special) buses by the Delhi Transport Corporation and that their bus passes should be made valid on AC buses (Red buses) also. Better college infrastructure was another demand of the delegation. The delegation said that Kejriwal assured them of solving the students issues.

Delhi High Court Notice to Police Over Wrong Address on Passport NEW DELHI The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the police and the regional passport office on a plea seeking action against a passport officer who allegedly got a passport for himself and family on a non-existing residential address. Justice Rajiv Shakdher sought a response from the regional passport office, deputy commissioner of police, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and the wife of the officer who is alleged to be involved in the illegal act. The plea, filed by an NGO Paardarshita Public Welfare Foundation,

approved by any landowning agency. The plea said the NGO had approached Delhi Police and the passport office but no action was taken against the officer concerned. It also alleged that "in connivance of some of his agents, the officer issued the passports on the bogus and false verification reports of the Special Branch of Delhi Police in return of consideration in cash and kind".
