LIFEGUARD & WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING Lifeguarding teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies at a pool setting only. Waterfront Lifeguarding teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies at both pool and non-surf waterfront settings. Both courses include content and activities to prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.

LIFEGUARD PRECOURSE

This course is designed to help lifeguard candidates work on skills that are necessary to complete the lifeguard prerequisite swim tests. Participants may register for as many precourses as they like. You must register for each course separately and pay the fee per course.

LIFEGUARDING RENEWAL (POOL ONLY) 9-16 hours Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age of 15 by the last day of the course 2. Must have CURRENT Lifeguard certificate (must bring current certificate to the first class) 3. Must complete Lifeguard class prerequisite skills on the first day of class (listed above) Certification: • Lifeguarding (2 year certification, must renew within 2 years of completion course date) • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (1 year certificate, must be renewed within 1 year of course completion date)

Family and Youth Member: $10; Non-Member: $20

Family and Youth Member: $300; Non-Member: $350

LIFEGUARDING (POOL ONLY) 27 hours

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING

Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age of 15 by the last day of the course 2. Swim 300 yards (12 laps or 24 back & forth as a continuous swim, no stopping at the side or midway.) Demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing to the side and arms must come out of the water. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. 3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits. 4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Requirements: Completion and competency of precourse skills and score 80% or better on final exam. If you do not pass the pre course testing listed above, you will receive a refund less a 25% processing fee. Pre requisite skills are tested in first class. Certification: • Lifeguarding (2 year certification, must renew within 2 years of completion course date) • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (1 year certificate, must be renewed within 1 year of course ompletion date) Family and Youth Member: $400; Non-Member: $450

Minimum age 15 by the last day of the course - 32 hours (Proof of age must be brought to the first class) Prerequisite Skills: Includes all three prerequisite skills from the Lifeguard training course (see left) and in addition: 4. Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4–7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yards to the side of the pool. If you do not pass this pre-course testing (above), you will receive a refund less a 25% processing fee. Prerequisite skills are tested in first class. Participants must attend ALL sessions in any one course. Description: This course is for those who have never taken an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course before, or for those who have an expired Lifeguard Training card. Prepares candidates with the necessary skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies at a pool and a waterfront environment. This course includes training in Lifeguard Skills (pool and waterfront) and First-Aid (certificate is valid for 2 years) and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (certificate is valid for 1 year). Students must bring mask and fins to class. Participants must attend ALL sessions in any one course. Family & Youth Member: $450; Non-Member: $500

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING RENEWAL AND BRIDGE TO WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING

9-16 hours. Prerequisities: Current Lifeguarding or Waterfront Lifeguarding certificate (participants must bring current certificate to first class). Must perform all 4 Waterfront Lifeguarding prerequisite skills (see Waterfront Lifeguarding Prerequisite Skills above).This course will renew your Waterfront Lifeguarding or will bridge your Lifeguarding to Waterfront Lifeguarding. Students will receive a twoyear certification in Waterfront Lifeguarding and first aid and a one year certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Participants must attend all sessions. Family and Youth Member: $350; Non-Member: $400
