User Persona
Ashvini Patil
Age: 23
Occupation: Architect City: Pune
Ashvini recently graduated and is working at a firm away from her hometown. As a result, she lives away from her family and has to cook for herself. Since work life is new to her, she finds it challenging to find the time to cook all three meals every day. Hence, she heavily relies on ordering food at home. She also has a membership which restricts her from exploring other apps.

Primary Colours
Background Colours
It is said that red is very energetic and stimulates many senses, which directly leads to one’s appetite. This is why many fast-food chains include red in their signage and decor. Many restaurants also include yellow in their decor, which is known to increase appetite. I chose this shade of red as I found it to be directly linked to many popular foods consumed in India.

Process: The two squares represent two restaurants that are to be compared. Step 3 is comparing them side by side. The space created by overlapping the two squares signifies the best deals available to the users by comparing different platforms.

Brick by Brick
Women Empowerment Center, Kerala, India
Women empowerment center is a project located in Munnar, a small town in Kerala which facilitates as an educational and carrier development hub for all women. A hostel block is also included to allow women from nearby towns also to stay and focus on education. A daycare center, medical center, library, teaching halls, dining room, and kitchen are provided. Beautiful hills and views surround the site, and it also has a playground on the east side, which would be a potential source of noise and disturbance. Hence, the building is designed in a C-shape, where the walls and trees create a buffer and block the sound and the courtyard, created at the middle, is an interactive space. The building material is exposed brickwork as it is easily available, does not require extreme professional skills, and gives a feeling of warmth.
The final massing of the structure was designed to block noise from the nearby ground and allow the natural breeze generated near the water body to enter the site into the courtyard.

Pariyavan Hitarshi
Eco - Resort, Maharashtra, India
My final year thesis includes designing an environment-friendly and sustainable luxury resort at the hill station Mulshi. The primary goal of this project is to encourage tourists to travel sustainably and improve the resort’s efficiency, including conserving energy and resources and utilizing free renewable resources. Most users would join for a weekend getaway from Pune, a metropolitan city less than an hour’s drive away. The smart-city plan presented by the government includes the promotion of eco-tourism in areas near Pune, and Mulshi being one of the proposed areas, led me to choose a site there. This 46,000sqm eco-resort is built with eco-friendly and locally sourced materials and has passive design strategies integrated into the design to reduce energy consumption and minimize carbon footprint. Moreover, the entire existing flora was left undisturbed, and the planning was done around it. Also, the proposal for the entire resort to go off-grid has been initiated by introducing a dedicated space for solar panels.

The Chai Point
Food kiosk
This project aims at the riverfront development of the Godavari River. We had to design a temporary structure that could be dismantled easily and is made of locally sourced materials, hence, sustainable. I chose to design a kiosk that could be placed in two optional locations as the extended seating area would be optional. Option A is detailed in this project, which includes an extended deck for outdoor seating, and option B would be a space with just the kitchen area and a space to stand and eat. The main material palette used is centered around wood derivatives and concrete blocks.

Option B
Option A
The renovation of this kindergarten included many site visits, a first-hand experience on a project being built, and interactions with laborers and contractors. These weekly visits made me realize how important interactions with laborers are. Moreover, a tedious back and forth with clients regarding the layout of classrooms resulted in an intense rework of elevations and corrections in plans which were all done by me. This project also gave me an insight into how a designer needs to remain calm if certain mistakes are made on-site and how to explain them to laborers.
