RUTGER BRANDT GALLERY Rutger Brandt Gallery has been established in 2010. It's mission is to showcase contemporary art by emerging young artists as well as established international artists in a multi-generational program. We aim for a long-term commitment in developing the artists?career and the gallery acts as a liaison with other galleries outside The Netherlands. One of the connecting factors, how varied the outcome may be, is socially committed and narrative art to be found in various disciplines. Political, social actuality and individualism are key ingredients to reflect the spirit of this age. Confronted with the many aspects of human relations, especially those of alienation, isolation, absurdum and the raw side of life, these works call for self-reflection. These artists seek new ways of representation that make us aware of unexpected aspects of everyday life. Our exhibition program is dedicated to aesthetic, progressive and thought-provoking shows.

Sebast ian Hosu 1988, Satu Mare, Romania Sebastian Hosu doesn't use paint but charcoal to depict his figures and mysterious crowds. Based on an old family photo archive, Hosu's work is expressive and extremely subtle; two extremes that are not naturally present at the same time in an artwork. His dark stripes, spots and sweeps are honest, sharp and are directly transferred to paper. Because a lack of completed, specific objects and figures his work invites into a deeper thinking and evaluation of the usual way of perceiving and interpreting situations, others and ourselves. Are we looking at a family portrayed in front of a forest? Or is it a group of people that are being deported (caught) in the middle of the night? The charcoal drawings by Sebastian Hosu are intriguing: there where the figuration ends and where spatial voids arise, there emerge 100s of associations by the spectator.
