About Fulton Stadium Fulton High School opened its brand new football stadium on September 1, 2012 with a 43-7 win over Austin-East. The $1.2 million facility replaced the old Fulton Stadium which was opened in 1965. Fulton Stadium seats 3,277 on the home side, and 741 in the new visitor’s stands for a total capacity of 4,018. This is an increase of 424 seats over the old stadium. Visitors have not had seating behind the visitor’s bench at Fulton since the mid-1980s. Other features of the stadium include a 600 square foot press box, fencing around the outside of the track, a new ticket booth and storage building, and entrance

gates behind the stadium. Thanks to a generous donation from Pilot/Flying J, Bob Black Field was converted to field turf in the summer of 2016. The new field was dedicated during Fulton’s televised game with Maryville. Long before Fulton played its first home game at the school, what is now known as Bob Black Field served as Fulton’s practice field. Home games from 1951-1964 were played at Evans-Collins Field. In 1964, the North Knoxville Stadium Association was established with the goal of building a football stadium at Fulton High School. Local personality Cas Walker lent his support to the fundraising efforts. The NKSA worked hard to raise money for the project from local businesses and individual donors. In October of 1964, local dignitaries gathered for the ground breaking of the original Fulton Stadium/Falcon Field. The original stadium, consisting of the middle section of the former stadium’s bleachers, along with temporary stands, seated 3000 people and was ready for the first game of the 1965 season on August 27, 1965 against Unicoi Co. On that historic evening, a full house watched the Falcons defeat the Blue Devils 13-0. The Falcons opened their stadium with a 19 game unbeaten streak (17-0-2) from 1965-1968. The stadium was expanded before the 1969 season to a capacity of 3,594. Fulton lost to Sevier Co. 14-8 in the first game in the completed stadium. Falcon Field was renamed “Bob Black Field,” in honor of the coach and athletic director on September 12, 1986. In the dedication game, Fulton defeated Alcoa 10-7 on Mike Potter’s overtime field goal. Fulton’s best season home record is 9-0 during both the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Falcons compiled a record of 145-100-3 in the old Fulton Stadium.

Fulton at Home Fulton has a record of 28-5 in games played in the new Fulton Stadium. They currently have a four game home losing streak. The Falcons won their first game in the new stadium 43-7 over A-E in 2012. Jolante Castle has the distinction of scoring the first TD in the new stadium. Fulton’s schoolrecord 25 game home winning streak came to an end in 2015. Before that, the record for FHS’ longest home winning streak was 19 games spanning the

About Fulton High School Fulton High School opened in 1951 as one of Tennessee’s first comprehensive high schools, combining a complete academic curriculum with a full vocational program. Fulton is located in historic North Knoxville just 5 minutes from the University of Tennessee campus on land formerly known as Scott’s Hill. The school is named for noted industrialist and inventor Weston M. Fulton. Fulton has developed a reputation for turning out graduates who have followed the school motto “enter to learngo forth to serve.” A tradition of outstanding athletic teams has been born at the school. Famous former Falcons include College Football hall of famer and former Dallas Cowboy D.D. Lewis, UT basketball All-American Bill Justus, former Vol linebacker Jackie Walker, and four-sport letter winner Ron Widby. The Falcons have earned a total of nine state championships in football and basketball. Fulton’s destiny was almost sealed in 1992 when the Knox Co. School Board voted to close the school, but strong protests by alumni and supporters helped to reverse the decision. A fifteen million dollar renovation of Fulton High was completed in 1998 which created new classrooms, including band and music rooms, and a new gymnasium. Fulton High School responded to the challenges of the No Child Left Behind Act during the 2008-2009 school year by completely changing its organizational structure to focus on small learning communities. This change allowed Fulton High School to become an innovative center of learning, and produce students who enter to learn and go forth to serve. Fulton is currently comprised of five different learning communities including the Schools of Communication, Health Science, and Skilled Professions. Former Austin-East and L&N STEM Academy principal Rob Speas was named the principal of Fulton High School in the summer of 2012.

His eight wins in 2011 tied him with Mac Lambert for the most wins by a first-year FHS coach. Prior to becoming head coach, he served as offensive coordinator for 19 years. He is the architect of Fulton’s record setting multiple formation offense. Nearly every offensive school record has been set during his tenure since 1992 as Offensive Coordinator. Black graduated from Fulton in 1984, and was a three-sport athlete. He played both football and baseball while at Carson-Newman. Black served as a volunteer assistant at Fulton for several years before joining the staff full time in 1991. Coach Black earned his first win as head coach with a 31-14 victory at Pigeon Forge in 2011. He also served as Fulton’s baseball coach from 2002-2005.

He was killed on the night of December 17, 2015 shielding two other Fulton students from gunfire in a random attack. Zaevion’s heroism quickly became a national story, and was featured in a segment of CBS’s coverage of Super Bowl 50. President Obama referenced Zaevion in tweets and in a White House speech on gun issues. ESPN honored Zaevion with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in its ESPY Awards ceremony in July. Zaevion’s mother, Zenobia, along with brothers Markastin and Zack traveled to Los Angeles to accept the award in front of celebrities in both the sports and entertainment world. The Fulton Football team will recognize Zaevion in three different ways. A logo of a maroon 24 jersey has been permanently placed on Fulton’s new turf field. The team will wear decals with the number 24 on their helmets, and undershirts will feature the name “Zae” inside a black armband.
