Fall Rally
Fall Rally “Fall Rally was an experience that I would probably never forget, from the different workshops to the motivational speakers; it was simply one of the most energizing atmospheres I’ve ever been involved with in my life. One of the few things that really appealed to me would be the location, New York University’s Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life was one of the best locations that you could ask for. With the large amount of classrooms to the extremely big hall; it fulfilled all the conditions that a Key Club Rally would require and then some. The next thing that I really liked about the Fall Rally would be the workshops. The workshops were extremely detailed and relevant. They presented information in a clear, concise fashion and made it fun. The first workshop I went to was the Thirst Project workshop, one of the district projects that the New York District is working on. Evan Wesley is simply… one of the most influential motivational speaker I’ve ever met. He makes you want to go out and actually do something with your life. In this case, he makes you want to be involved with the Thirst Project. Aside from the workshops, there were two other main events that were included with Fall Rally. The first one was the guest speaker, Evan Wesley. He was able to hype up everyone within the big hall very well with the game “Rollercoaster”; we were pretending to be on a rollercoaster with the people sitting around us. Now I think my favorite event of Fall Rally would be KFair. KFair was a large icebreaker that involved everyone in the room. If I had to compare it to any other event, it would have to be the PLAYFAIR during LTC last year which was also insane. Just imagine two groups screaming at each other, competing with one another using volume as the method of competition. Honestly it was really fun and the most exhilarating thing that happened to me this year. I can’t wait for the next Fall Rally!” -Kenry Lin(key clubber from division 8)
Peanut Day
Peanut Day “The day consisted of hard work and sweat where the key club members were trying their best to raise money. The members were given vests and cans along with several handfuls of peanuts. We walked up to cars windows, explaining where the profits would be given to. There were many kind drivers and passengers who decided to donate for this charitable cause, and we gave them some delicious peanuts in return. It was a fantastic experience and we achieved a great amount of donations for the children in need. -Michelle Chen (key clubber from Midwood High School)
Breast Cancer Walk
Breast Cancer Walk “Midwood High School Key Club attended the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on October 18, 2015 in Prospect Park. The purpose of the walk was to raise awareness and funds to support research for a cure. The event happens every year in several parks around New York and Midwood always attends. Last year we volunteered, but this year we decided to join the walk. Over 50 members showed up, making it one of our most successful events of the year. When we started walking, the first mile seemed to fly by. I saw the mile marker and thought “Already?” But then we didn't see any other mile markers and it only seemed to get longer. There was no shortcut either because all I saw around me were trees, but when we finally completed the walk I was definitely proud of myself and the other members for sticking around. Eventually, we finished all 4 miles to show our dedication and support to the walk and look forward to attending it again next year.” -Najah Thurston Vice President Midwood High School Key Club
Haunted Halloween Walk
Haunted Halloween Walk “The
Haunted Halloween Walk was one of the best events I have experienced. The event organizers were both courteous and welcoming. The event began with each volunteer/actor being assigned a role to play in the walk. My friend and I dressed up as Druids. Some other costumes include: the Evil Queen from Snow White, ghouls, vampires witches, etc. After getting changed and given our dialogue we headed to Prospect Park. We rehearsed for an hour and then the walk began. I had only expected 100 people to show up at most but it turns out a couple thousand people came out to the walk. My favorite part of this event wasn't scaring people but rather connecting with other volunteers from other schools (not all from Key Club) as they were hilarious and extremely cooperative. I also enjoyed seeing families having a great time and children attempting to say hello to me (unfortunately my character wasn't allowed to speak so I had to keep quiet, and on that note I may or may not have broken that rule a few times). In the end, although it was a long event, the experience I received from it is rare to come by and I believe the other volunteers feel the same way as I do. Winnie Chen Secretary Brooklyn Technical High School Key Club
