7 July

TEMPTING FÊTE Drum roll please… Clapham Common is launching its first ever summer fête organised by The Friends of Clapham Common and everyone is invited. Head down to the bandstand area on Sunday 7 July from 12.30pm until 5pm and enjoy the huge variety of events, activities and nosh on offer. If you are a traditionalist at heart then this soirée will prove right up your street as there will be cricket, fishing, a model boat competition and a Punch and Judy show. There are masses of activities to keep the little ones happy, with everything from toddler yoga and face painting to races and even a real fire engine to explore – guaranteed fun for the whole family.

The Friends of Clapham Common also know how much residents love their canine companions, which is why it has organised a dog show and a dog micro-chipping service on the day. Just one of the options for lunch includes a barbecue at La Baita, the Common’s café situated close to the fête area, followed by a handmade luxury cupcake from one of the many stalls. On Sunday, the Common will play host to around 30 stalls, selling everything from gourmet cakes to books. Many of the area’s favourite local businesses and well-known charities will be setting up to sell their fabulous goodies. If all this is not enough to

get you in the summer spirit, there will be live performances from Steel Band Music Ltd and The Whitlam. For all those avid Wimbledon fans who noted the day with a pang, don’t worry. The men’s tennis final can be viewed on a huge outdoor screen so you won’t miss a moment of the nail-biting action. With all this and much more, the day promises to be spectacular and undoubtedly the first of many.
