K: Keep your hands to yourself. This is an important part of our Runkle Code of Conduct. The guiding principle here is to respect other people’s physical being and space. Any hitting, kicking, or biting is strictly prohibited. In addition, there is no throwing of sticks, leaves, rocks, or snowballs. Snow must stay on the ground. L: LEARNING is what school is all about! We expect our students to strive to be the best they can be, and to put forth their best effort each and every day. Learning is a lifelong endeavor, which doesn’t end at 2:20, in June, or upon Graduation. Just ask the teachers! Our teachers are actively engaged in Professional Learning Communities, such as Critical Friends Groups, Child Study Teams, and Responsive Classroom groups. M: Missing clothes and other possessions are put in the “Lost and Found” box which is now located by the office on the second floor. The “Lost and Found” box is emptied out on the last Friday of each month and the contents are donated to charity. N: Nutrition and good food are part of Runkle’s school lunch program. We encourage students to make eating the school lunch a regular event in their day. O: Opportunities to do simple acts of kindness are plentiful. Hold a door. Say please and thank you. Compliment somebody. Opportunities for independence include allowing your children to enter the building and walk themselves to class. P: Parking Reminder: Please note that there is limited parking around our campus on Boylston Street. On the rare occasions you may need to drop off or pick up your child, you may park in any of the available parking spots marked for “2 hour” parking. There is also a “live parking” zone on the westbound side of Route 9. Drivers must stay in their vehicles in this location, but students may be dropped off here and crossed at the crosswalk by the crossing guard in the morning. Q: Quiet “indoor voices” are what we need throughout the building, especially in the cafeteria so we can have a calmer lunchroom. We all need to work together to make lunch time a more relaxing experience. R: Respect for others is the basic building block of our Runkle Code of Conduct. S: Safety is a priority here at school. It is important that all children and adults feel safe at Runkle. Students should talk to an adult when they do not feel safe at school. T: Traffic needs to move quickly in front of the school each morning. Curbside drop-off is a must! Please arrange your car seats and other passengers so that your child can get out on the curbside of the car, not on the street side! (Reminder: Small children should not ride in the front seat.) U: (Uniform) DRESS CODE: Despite the popular culture outside of school and on television, allowing underwear to show is still not appropriate in school. Cropped tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps, low-slung pants, short shorts, short skirts, can be a distraction for the educational environment of the school. Content of wording and pictures on clothing apparel must be appropriate and respectful at all times. Apparel referencing weapons or drugs is not allowed.
