Back to Basics: Some Runkle A, B, C's A: Attendance - please call our absence line (617-879-4249) before 7:45 a.m. if your child is going to be out sick or tardy. This is an important safety measure so that we can account for all students each day. B: Be on time. Our school day starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. with students being considered tardy if they arrive after 8:00. The smooth start of the day is an essential way to get learning off on the right foot. Every minute counts. Please see the Runkle School Tardy Policy on page 7. C: Cell phone use is not allowed in school. Cell phones should remain in backpacks, turned off, during the school day. Students may turn on their cell phones and use them after they exit the school, after 2:20. Cell phones will be confiscated and turned in to the office if they are visible. Students may pick up their phone after school for their first offense. A second offense requires a parent/guardian to pick up the phone. Walkie-talkies are also not allowed in school. D: Dogs are not permitted on school grounds. Please keep your dogs on a leash, and they should not be any closer to school than the sidewalk. E: Every adult staying at school after 8:10 is required to sign in at the office and wear a visitor's badge. This is a critical safety issue. We require all parents and guests to respect the boundaries set by the school and sign in when they arrive. Parent/Teacher conferences must be scheduled in advance. If a special circumstance requires an immediate parent-teacher meeting, you are required to go through the Office. F: The Field across the street is available for our use during recess and PE classes. Please keep in mind that there is no supervision on the playground prior to the start of the school day or after dismissal. G: Garden Level refers to the lowest level of the building accessed by the Ramp Door and home to the gymnasium, the R.E.D. room, instrument room, music room, and several classrooms. H: Helmets must be worn by students riding bikes, scooters, etc. Please dismount at the sidewalk before parking and locking your bike at the bike racks located at the West end of the building. [N.B.: Bicycles, scooters, skateboards, etc. may not be used on school property during the school day. When you reach the sidewalk, please walk your bike (scooter, etc.) the rest of the way.] Use of heelies and skateboards is never allowed inside the school building for safety reasons and out of respect to the school environment. I: iPods and other personal listening devices must be put away, out of sight, during the school day – from 8:00 a.m. to 2:20. (N.B.: We cannot be responsible for these devices that may get broken, lost, or stolen if brought to school.) J: Just do it! Recycling is something we take seriously at Runkle. Use our recycling bins for paper in the classrooms and plastic in the lunchroom. We are also recycling cardboard.
