The architecture and laid back Island life will transport you back when ship building, fishing and farming were a way of life. You can visit Wyannie Malone Museum, climb the famous candy striped lighthouse which still has the original kerosene lantern, see boat builders at work in nearby Man-O-War Cay or catch up on the history as you sit and chat with some of the friendly locals who have made Abaco their home for many generations, and love to tell stories. Getting here has never been easier, Marsh Harbour the main hub, is serviced by many local and International airlines daily from Florida, Nassau and now Atlanta… To get to Hope Town, it is just minutes away by taxi to the Albury’s ferry service and a 20 minute ferry ride to the island. Hope Town Hideaways was founded over 25 years ago in 1988 by Christopher & Peggy Thompson. The Thompson family has developed 1,000’s of acres of property and contributed in countless ways to the growth of Abaco and the well-being of its residents. Christopher & Samara Albury have been the operating partners since 2012 and look forward to many more years of growth.

Meet the Realtors! Samara Albury Samara Albury was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas. Samara spent a few years at Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy following in her Brother, Mark’s footsteps. She attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida attaining a BA in Communications. At the age of 20, Samara visited Hope Town, Abaco and lived their for almost 2 years before moving back to Nassau to pursue a real estate career. She knew without a shadow of a doubt that Abaco would be her permanent home someday. Samara’s dream came true when she and her husband, Christopher moved to Abaco in late 2011. Samara has been selling real estate for over 15 years attaining her Broker’s License in 2009 and was a 3-time Top Producer at H. G. Christie in Nassau. Samara and Christopher are now partners at Hope Town Hideaways and she looks forward to many years of success in Real Estate. Samara has been involved in giving back to the community in many ways over the past 10 years through her brother, Mark Knowles’ Annual Celebrity Tennis Event which she helps to organize and co-ordinate. She also personally mentors and educates a young man who spent most of his life in a Children’s home. Her passions include helping others, painting, boating and especially writing. She has even had a few of her poems published.

Chris Thompson Christopher Thompson founded Hope Town Hideaways Real Estate when he returned from college and became one of the first licensed brokers in Abaco. For the past two decades Chris has been busy with many projects including a marina in Guana Cay but certainly the most exciting is polishing one of Abaco’s island jewels – Matt Lowe’s Cay – one of the most exclusive island developments in the Abacos. After dedicating a larger portion of his life to real estate, Chris loves to build and develop properties always keeping in tune with our precious island style and ensuring low impact. Chris donates time to the community and was President of the islands Restoration Committee, where he worked with other volunteers and rebuilt Elbow Cay’s entire eastern shoreline. Chris was appointed by the Right Honourable Hubert Ingraham, to chairman of the first business licensing board. He was asked and accepted the honor of Justice of the Peace in 2005. Chris has three children Jade, Shannon and Dylan who are all attending college in the USA. When he is not selling real estate, Chris can be found riding the waves, free diving, sailing or fishing…Abaco is the life for Chris – no doubt.

Steve Thompson Steve Thompson grew up in the real estate business. His father, Joe was one of the founders of BREA (Bahamas Real Estate Association) and enjoyed many successful years as partners with his older brother Chester Thompson. In addition to real estate sales, Steve specializes in property management and represents dozens of owners. Steve’s roots can be traced back to one of first Loyalist settlers Wyannie Malone on his grandmother’s side and the Eleutheran adventurers on his grandfather’s side. Susan, his wife is a great interior decorator in the area. They have three children and two grandchildren. Ask Steve about his time as a professional football player for the Redskins – no joke! Steve has dropped the football now for the Hawaiian sling and enjoys spear fishing as often as he can.

Junior Mernard

Junior Mernard arrived in Hope Town from Nassau in 1984 with his mom. He was an exceptional student and shortly after graduation he began his career at Sea Spray Resort & Marina. He worked his way up from dock master to manager of this resort. Junior dedicates time to Hope Town and was elected to the Elbow Cay Management Association by the community. He is a past President overseeing improvements and rules that ensure our island retains its unique qualities and way of life. Junior is a musician at heart and when he finds time, plays a mean set of drums! The man is self-made, hard working and as reliable as they come. Junior and his beautiful wife, Willenne have two sons and together they own JR’s Golf Cart Rentals.

Meet the Realtors! Christopher Lightbourn Christopher Lightbourn was born in Nassau. He is truly the nicest, friendliest & helpful person you will ever meet in your life. This explains his dedication to the Hope Town Fire and Rescue where for over 20 years he has volunteered as a first responder and saved countless lives and rescued folks, ensuring they received proper medical attention. He loves this island and is willing to share with clients all his local knowledge –except his favorite conch bed! Christopher is an avid water person and a great sailor – he races with the Abaco Rage team throughout the Bahamas Islands. He and his lovely wife, Amanda live in an island home with their daughters. Life’s passions include gardening, music (ask about his island CD), scuba diving, ANY KIND of fishing, and bird hunting.

Kristina Malone

Kristina Malone was born and raised in Hope Town and makes this her home together with her husband and two delightful children. She is a direct descendant of the first loyalist settlers to the Abacos and as such she is firmly rooted in the Abaco. Kristina attended Hope Town Primary and then Abaco Central Secondary. After her formal education, she became a certified Massage Therapist. Since 2007 she has worked in the hospitality industry working her way up to a management position at the Abaco Inn. She joined the company in October 2014 learning the ropes of the sales and rental divisions. It was an easy decision to take the BREA examination to become a licensed Realtor and she looks forward to helping clients find the perfect property. Kristina is active in the various childrens’ activities and charitable functions that make Hope Town such a fun experience for the young. While not working or tending to her family’s needs, Kristina can be found pursuing her favorite hobbies of boating and camping.

Mark Knowles

Mark Knowles was born in Nassau, Bahamas and is a former World #1 professional doubles tennis player and winner of 4 Grand Slam Doubles Championships. After being awarded a scholarship to the Nick Bollettieri’s famed tennis academy, Mark played three seasons at UCLA, where he earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles and majored in economics. He played on the Bahamas Davis Cup team for more than 13 years and he is a five-time Olympian, reaching the quarterfinals at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Now retired from full time tennis, Mark is a popular figure in the commentary booth of Tennis Channel and is a regular host of the annual World Team Tennis Smash Hits charity event, co-hosted by Sir Elton John and Billie Jean King. Mark is known for his charitable endeavors, including raising over $1 Million at his annual tennis invitation in aid of children’s charities in the Bahamas. Mark is an avid sportsman and counts golf, diving and all water sports activities as his hobbies. He and his beautiful wife Dawn, have three children, 2 boys and a girl. Mark is excited about his new career in Bahamas Real Estate and is looking forward to working with his sister, Samara Albury, at Hope Town Hideaways Real Estate.

Darvin Curry

Darvin Curry is Chris Thompson’s nephew and though born in Nassau, he has lived in Abaco since the age of four. He grew up at the knee of his legendary grandfather, Captain Leonard Thompson who served 19 years as an elected official in the House of Assembly and had a major impact on Abaco – developing the two largest resorts on the island Treasure Cay Resort, marina and golf course as well as Great Abaco Beach Resort. Darvin attended Florida Air Academy and later Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. After graduating with a major in marketing and international business, he moved home to have a short career at world famous Nippers bar and Grill before moving on to help develop Guana Hideaways Marina. Now the owner of Everything Guana that specializes in property management and rentals, he has first hand knowledge of what buying in Guana Cay can afford you. His passions include tennis and sailing.

“The Hope Town Inn and Marina is a wonderful place to stay. The marina is very nice with large boat slips with water and electricity. We had 2 king rooms, overlooking the pool which were very nice. Not large, but had a small refrigerator with small freezer and microwave. Also had small table and chairs. The rooms had a large balcony. No bathtub, but had small shower. Large vanity area was nice. The room was very clean and all the staff at the resort were friendly and helpful. The open air restaurant by the pool had very good food both at lunch and dinner. Service was leisurely, but friendly. Would definitely recommend staying here and will plan to stay longer next year.”
