JASMINIUM Wayfinding System

About

Brief

With 31 apartment buildings in the society, Jasminium is the biggest housing society and community in Magarpatta city. The apartment complex houses over 800 people and has a wide variety of amenities for the residents. The city itself is a 600-acre, privately owned gated community in the Hadapsar area of Pune, India.

As Jasminium has complicated internal routes with multiple entry and exit points with little to no signages within the compound, it was necessary to establish a wayfinding system that suits the needs of the various visitors and guide them efficiently.

There are no orientational, identificational signages anywhere in the compound.

The few directional signs for parking are painted on the wall and are not tall enough. Moreover, due to poor lighting, they are not visible at night.

The painted signages have faded over time and due to lack of maintenance also have water damage.

Observations The magarpatta residents have an identity card for themselves as well as stickers for their vehicles. This resident pass can be used at any society. Household help have to submit their aadhar cards at the gate and collect them back after the end of their shift. So they have to leave from the same gat that they entered through in the morning. There are a lot of unutilized provisions eg : lighting, clubhouse. Cleanliness is well maintained even with such a large compound.

Visibilty issues with painted signs as trees cover it up

Navigation to induvitual lobbies is difficult because view is blocked

Buildings are at angles so signs might not be visible from the other side

Types of Signage

Orientation Signage Directional Signage Identificational Signage Regulatory Signage Identification Signage (Wall mounted inside)

System Orientation map placed at each of the gates. Color coded zones according to the gates of entry for ease of navigation and to understand where to exit from. Signages will be of the color of the zone in which its placed making it easier for motorists to recognize and comprehend which zone they are in now. Well lit (edgelit panel) signages for the entire society as lighting is a huge issue. Directional signages in places where there are blindspots around the perimeter of the society. A uniform sense of design throughout the different types of signages. Building block identificational sign boards placed inside to indicate the lobby area and entry to the building through the parking entry where lighting is particularly bad. Regulatory signs made with better, durable material that will survive the wear and tear. Directional Signs in the garden which inform the user about the nearest gate around them.

Concept Since Jasminium is one of the housing societies which make up the bigger township of Magarpatta, it was important to develop a visual language could be implemented in all of the other societies as well. The common theme - flora. The logo developed has a simple style which can be used for generating logos for other society as well. The motif has been used in the signages to maintain the consistent theme. The idea was to have the visual language represent grace and assurance along with an element of class. The signs themselves have their shapes derived from the petals of a flower. Easily identifiable pictograms have been developed. Colors chosen are distinguishable enough but also subdued that go with the mood and personality of the space.
