WAYNE’S WORLD A very warm welcome to all attending the match this afternoon at the Recreation Ground, home of Ruardean Hill Rangers Football Club. We would like to offer a special welcome to the players, management, and supporters of Bromley Heath United for this Marcliff Gloucestershire County League fixture. We hope they enjoy their short stay with us and have a safe journey home. Today’s visitors currently sit 4th in the league table with 21 points from 11 games Their game at home to Sharpness last week was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Ruardean Hill’s first team match at home to Gala Wilton resulted in a 3-2 victory for the Hill. Despite being behind twice in the game, the Hill continued their unbeaten run with goals from Ollie Mason, Charlie Mason and Finn Jones. In the North Glos Premier Division, the Reserve team game at Harrow Hill was postponed. Ruardean Hill Rangers A also gained a 3-2 victory against Sling Res at Dene Magna. The Hill goal scorers were Aaron Barnett, Connor Dix and Lee Johnson. The victory moved the team up two places in Division 3. Neither the Reserves or the A team have fixtures this week. They will resume their respective league programmes on Saturday 6th January 2023. Off the field, we continue to seek opportunities to improve the football club at all levels. The club is run by volunteers and is self-funded. We are constantly looking for helpers and ways in which we can improve our club. If anyone can assist, please contact one of the club officers listed in the programme. We can confirm that the fixture against local rivals, Broadwell Amateurs, will kick off at 1pm on Tuesday 26th December 2023. The fixture was originally a 2pm start. Finally, we hope you enjoy today’s game. This is final game for all the Ruardean Hill teams prior to Christmas. We would like to thank everyone for their support throughout 2023 and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing everyone on Boxing Day. Thanks, Midge

RUARDAEAN HILL

RANGERS HISTORY Ruardean Hill Rangers play their football on the highest point in the Forest of Dean, 920 feet above sea level. Formed in 1919, Ruardean Hill played in the old Forest of Dean league until its termination in the late 1950’s. They then moved into the North Gloucestershire League and have remained there in some capacity ever since. Ruardean Hill gained their first promotion to the Northern Senior League in 1994/95 and competed in this league for several seasons before being relegated in 2001. They immediately regained promotion the following year only to be relegated again in 2004. In the 2011/12 season, they earned a last day promotion back to the senior league as well as reaching the final of the ‘Amateur Cup’. The 2012/13 season brought the club its first promotion to the Northern Senior League Division 1 from back-to-back promotions. ‘The Hill’ finished in the top eight for each of the next three seasons before finally winning the Division 1 title in 2016/2017 season. They scored an incredible 125 goals and conceded just 34 in 35 games. Ruardean Hill’s current first team has a good mixture of youth, from our youth teams, and experience from the same core group of players. The core group players have been in the team for about 10 years. They now field 3 senior teams; the club’s promotions owe a lot to the depth of its other senior teams. The club are now competing in their 5th season in the Marcliff County League having finished 9th and 5th in their first two seasons. They are now fully cemented in the County League and they are looking to push on and finish as high as possible.

BROMLEY HEATH UNITED history Established back in the World Cup winning year of 1966, Bromley Heath United Junior Football Club is the oldest youth football club in the Bristol area. Throughout their 50 year plus history they have provided football for thousands of children preparing them for the senior game. Some of the more famous ex Bromley Youth players include Louis Carey and Gary Mabbutt. It wasn't until 2014 that the club decided to introduce a Senior Section to provide a progression for at least some of the youngsters when they finished playing under 16 or under 18 football. Initially there was one senior side playing in the Bristol and District League. In 2015 Winford PH FC amalgamated with Bromley Heath United FC to triple the size of its senior section and provide the impetus for successive promotions through the divisions of the Bristol and Suburban League. The 2018/19 season saw the 1st team became Champions of Bristol & Suburban Premier Division 1 and gaining promotion to the Gloucestershire County League. A tremendous achievement in such a relatively short period of time. However, the first couple of seasons at this higher level were not all plain sailing with players and management having to adjust to a more physical and competitive type of football that required a much higher level of fitness. The disruption caused to football and life in general by the Covid pandemic over this period also made it difficult to maintain any form of progress or consistency. It was not until the 2021-22 season really that the Club started to look at home in the County Leagues, especially in the second half of the season. Team restructuring and creating a blend of young players and experienced players started to pay dividends. This all came to fruition during last season’s County League campaign when we finished runners-up not far behind the winners Cribbs and 8 points clear of the third placed team. Bromley Heath United Junior and Senior sections now operate as one football club with the same ambitions and hopes for the future. The Junior Section which was the first local club to open a Development Centre as an initial introduction to football for very young children is thriving. They now offer football for every Junior/Youth age group right up to under 18 level. The Senior Section offer a progression into adult football either into the ‘A’ team or the Reserves playing in the 4th and 1st divisions of the Bristol & Suburban League respectively. The aim is of course to produce players who will eventually become 1st team players. Bromley Heath United Football Club is based at Pomphrey Hill Community Sports complex in Mangotsfield where all its teams play. The Pavilion offers fantastic modern facilities and includes a Club Sports Bar showing live football and function rooms. The 2021/22 season has seen the introduction of a 4th Team made up of long serving players and players from last season’s Under 16s.
