Hudson Valley Educational Consortium What Is It?

Four Hudson Valley Community Colleges, Ulster, Sullivan, Rockland and Orange, have joined together in an exciting new regional collaboration. The purpose of the Hudson Valley Educational Consortium is to provide a wider scope of academic and continuing education programs to students. Another primary focus of the Consortium is to work with the community in the greater Hudson Valley to identify, develop and implement needed workforce training programs.

How Does It Work?

The Consortium is in the unique position of being able to meet evolving student and employer training demands by offering degree and continuing education opportunities primarily through long distance training technologies including interactive video television and online training. For example, a student attending Ulster Community College can enroll in courses originating from Sullivan Community College. Students participate in courses via interactive video training laboratory available on each campus and/or through online courses. This technology enables students to participate in classes and interact with the instructor, as well as the students at other colleges, through the interactive video educational environment. Interactive video television technology allows students to transcend the geographic barriers of degree programs offered at community colleges at geographically remote locations. In addition, Consortium programs give students the flexibility of taking their liberal arts courses from their “home” college.

Degree and Continuing Education Training Programs

Programs currently available through the Consortium include several emergency/homeland security related academic offerings: Associate of Applied Science degrees in Emergency Management, Cyber Security, Fire Protection Technology and Paramedic. Associate of Applied Science degree programs in the Innovative Technologies field are also available, including Green Building Maintenance and Management. The Consortium also offers an array of continuing education programs. Many programs are listed in the college schedules and educators are continually developing new programs based on emerging technologies and other areas of need. Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster Community Colleges are proactively working together to ensure that the regional needs of both students and employers are met through the Consortium.
