LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT We welcome you to another season of Hillcat baseball, which promises to build upon the excellence we've seen in previous years. The development of our athletic programs mirrors the exciting changes that have occurred throughout the university with a distinguished list of recent milestones that includes: • Developing as Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university during the past decade while still maintaining the personalized academic attention that’s become the university's hallmark; • Adding new academic programs to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s business and industry, including our first master’s degree program starting in fall 2014; • Constructing two student apartment communities and a dining hall (to open in fall 2014) that serve the Tulsa metropolitan area’s only residential, public university; • Expanding and remodeling academic facilities to provide students with up-to-date academic resources; and • Developing strong ties with the communities we serve in order to fulfill our mission of education and service. RSU’s rapid growth also extends to our intercollegiate athletics, which are a relatively new addition after being reintroduced to campus in 2005. In only a few short years, our Hillcat teams have become a vital component of the university’s DNA providing an infectious campus spirit and a strong connection to the community. The university and our students have invested in athletic facilities, including the new baseball/softball complex, Bushyhead Fieldhouse renovations, expansion and turf installation at Soldier Field and construction of soccer and cross country facilities on campus. We appreciate our entire student body for their support of these campus initiatives, including the student fees that funded the recently completed $4 million renovations of the soccer facilities and baseball/softball complex. Their support signals a strong vote of confidence in our athletic programs, but also represents their investment in the quality of life at Rogers State. The Hillcats are continuing our affilation with the Heartland Conference in the NCAA Division II. We have appreciated the high priority these two organizations have placed on promoting healthy values, developing strong character traits, and encouraging academic achievement among all student-athletes. These are core values for RSU’s programs, and we work daily to impress them upon our student-athletes. LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Greetings from the Hill and welcome to the ninth edition of Hillcat Baseball. The RSU Athletic Department embarks on a new chapter during the 2014 campaign as the Hillcats enter the Heartland Conference and the NCAA Division II membership process. The Hillcat Baseball team has enjoyed tremendous success since their inaugural season. With back-to-back World Series appearances, the Hillcats have gained national recognition in recent years and are now regarded as one of the premiere programs in small college baseball. There is no better time to be involved in Hillcat Athletics as we look to continue to improve upon the triumphs that have helped make Rogers State Hillcats a household name. The Hillcat Baseball team has built a solid foundation for the program while also emphasizing the important of academic success. We appreciate your interest in our fledging athletic programs and hope you will join us at the Diamond Sports Complex ballpark on a regular basis this spring. We are thankful to have the opportunity to showcase this first-class facility and look forward to hosting state, regional, and national events for many years to come. Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story
Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 60 percent, earning RSU the title of Oklahoma's fastest-growing regional university. A dynamic, progressive university with nearly 4,300 students, RSU is widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public, four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management and game development. In fall 2014, the university will begin its first graduate degree program, a master’s of business administration. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. And RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.
Distinguished Academic Achievements
RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program.

ABOUT RSU Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees, or the highest degrees available in their fields, from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma.
A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leadingedge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days.
The university’s Honors Program provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community.
RSU opened a new student apartment community in September 2011 that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project accommodates up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field. A new student dining hall will open on campus in fall 2014.
The President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy and Wales through the university's Studies-at-Large Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.
Stratton Taylor Library, which opened in 2004, features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations and classrooms.
A Brief History of RSU
Growth in Learning Facilities
RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus.
The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This twolevel, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community.
However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971.

u RSU is Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university.
Known as the “West Point of the Southwest,” OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaureate level was granted in 2000. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, Pryor and online.

Academic Development
The Hillcat Academic Center is located in the basement of Bushyhead Fieldhouse. There, student-athletes have access to a full computer lab with a printer and a classroom that can be utilized for study hall as well as individual study. Academic advising for all student-athletes is available in the office of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Development. Counseling for choosing a major and advising for course enrollment are provided, as well as help in obtaining a faculty advisor for those that have chosen a major. Tutors are available for most subjects by athletic department academic tutors in one-on-one or group sessions. Additional tutoring is available through individual academic departments. Hillcat Athletics requires study hall for all freshman and first semester transfer students to attend per week. Weekly study hall time thereafter is required as determined by cumulative GPA.
NCAA Compliance Training
Hillcat student-athletes are educated about NCAA rules and regulations. Including the NCAA regulations of practice and play seasons, outside competition and tryouts, commercial endorsements, boosters, student host recruiting and progress towards a degree.
Hillcat LIFE Programs
The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experiences of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Habitudes for Athletes Habitudes for Athletes is a character-based leadership training program designed to prepare athletes for successful participation in team sports as well as life off the playing field. The Habitudes curriculum uses powerful images to teach important character and leadership principles in an epic fashion that is both engaging and memorable. As a result, the athletes are equipped and empowered to develop healthy life skills that will positively impact their lives.

u Athletics has become an integral part of the campus community, with student-athletes serving as leaders on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
Social Media Training Rogers State educates and prepares student-athletes to make a positive impact through social media. RSU helps studentathletes understand the risk involved with using social media poorly, both currently and in the future. Through social media training, athletes are educated of the opportunities of social media in developing themselves for the workplace. Student-athletes learn the impact current social media interaction can have on their job search. Drug and Alcohol Counseling Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. Dangers of Gambling Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on any athletic event, which is a violation of NCAA rules. Community Engagement Rogers State athletic teams develop relationships with charities and community organizations throughout Claremore and surrounding communities to build relationships with community members. Organizations Hillcat teams have worked with include: TOPSoccer, Safenet, Rogers County Youth Services, Claremore Sequoyah Elementary, First Baptist Church Recovery Program, Claremore’s Westside Elementary, Catoosa Special Olympics, the Claremore Community Center’s Blast program, Operation Christmas Child, Claremore Nursing Home and Inola Elementary. Hillcat teams also took part in Rogers State University Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service events serving at a Habitat for Humanity site clearing debris and at the Claremore Veterans Center playing Bingo. In the fall 2012 semester, Hillcat athletic teams combined to work more than 900 hours with community organizations.

RON BRADLEY - HEAD BASEBALL COACH 2007 with a 28-23 record. He followed that up with a 35-16 record in 2008 and a fourth place finish as a first year member of the prestigious Sooner Athletic Conference. He achieved his 100th collegiate coaching victory in 2009 and has led RSU to four consecutive winning seasons.
Head Baseball Coach Ron Bradley is a member of Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association (OBCA) Hall of Fame, Class of 2003. He began his collegiate coaching career at RSU in 2004 after compiling one of the most successful high school baseball coaching resumes in Oklahoma history. Most recently, Bradley was named the Oklahoma College Baseball Coach of the Year by his peers in January 2009. His career accomplishments include four state championships in four different classifications (2A, 4A, 5A, 6A), one state runner-up, and eleven regional championships. He tallied nearly 500 career victories in his 21 years as a head coach at the high school level and holds the unique distinction of winning the first baseball state championship at West Fork (Ark.), Claremore (Okla.), and Jenks (Okla.) high schools. Bradley took Claremore to the state championship game three different times and reached at least the semi-final round in all three seasons he coached at Class 6A power Jenks High School.
The 2011 Diamond Cats had the most success in program history going 45-15 and capturing the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. The Cats reached the NAIA National Championship Opening Round and were ranked as high as No. 11 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, marking the first time the Cats had cracked the Top 25 in program history. In 2012, RSU reached yet another first as the Hillcats tallied a 49-16 record in a run to a NAIA National Runner Up finish at the NAIA Baseball World Series, the first national runner up finish for any Hillcat athletic team. Bradley tallied his 200th collegiate coaching victory in 2012 and led the Hillcats to consecutive 40-plus win seasons. The Diamond Cats returned to the NAIA World Series in 2013 after winning the NAIA Opening Round-Claremore Bracket. RSU went 4-0 in the Opening Round to reach its secondstraight World Series.
Bradley has been selected Oklahoma Coach of the Year three times by The Daily Oklahoman and Tulsa World. He has also been honored with two National Region Coach of the Year Awards and is a five time OBCA Coach of the Year.
He and his wife Jill reside in Claremore. They have two grown children; Ryan, Associate Athletic Director – Marketing & Strategic Communications at the University of Memphis, and Kayla, an elementary school teacher in Lawrence, Kan.
In 1998 he led the Oklahoma Senior Sunbelt team to its first ever Sunbelt Series Championship. Bradley has also been honored with coaching duties in the Oklahoma All-State game, Sooner State games and numerous other all-star competitions. More than a dozen of Bradley’s former players have been selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft, two of which have reached the big leagues. Bradley has been a keynote speaker at the state and national level and is highly regarded in the baseball coaching community for his philosophies on hitting and his ability to build championship programs. Bradley laid the foundation for athletics at RSU when he introduced club sports to the campus as the director of physical education in 2004. He later served as interim athletic director and remains instrumental in the development of RSU athletic programs. In eight season, Bradley’s club has posted a 264-160 record. Bradley guided the Hillcats to their first winning season in

ROBERT BROWN - ASSISTANT COACH Robert Brown returns for his ninth season with the Hillcat Baseball coaching staff in 2014 serving as Assistant Coach since 2004. Brown has played an integral part in the Hillcats climb to a 2012 NAIA National Runner-Up season and back-to-back appearances in the Avista-NAIA World Series the last two years. Serving as the pitching coach for RSU, the Diamond Cats have had two players under his tutelage drafted in the Major League Baseball draft over the last three years. Eight times a Hillcat pitcher has been named to the Sooner Athletic Conference All-Conference teams in Brown’s time in Claremore while one catcher has been recognized twice on the squad. He previously served as an assistant coach at Virginia’s Radford University, an NCAA Division I school in the Big South Conference. His duties at Radford were primarily pitching, defense, and recruiting. Brown also has served as the head coach of the Waynesboro Generals of the Valley League for two seasons. Prior to his work with Waynesboro, Brown served as an assistant coach at Collinsville High School as well as a stint at Oklahoma Junior College in Oklahoma City. Along with his coaching at RSU, Brown enjoys being a clinical speaker and private pitching instructor. Brown also is responsible for recruiting, travel management, scouting along with his duties as pitching coach.
JIMMY ROGERS - ASSISTANT COACH Assistant coach Jimmy Rogers returns for his seventh season at RSU after joining the Diamond Cats’ coaching staff in 2007. Rogers brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the Major Leagues after spending two seasons in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays. Working primarily with the pitching staff he also serves as the Hillcats first base coach. Rogers is a graduate 1985 of Tulsa Webster High School and was an all-state selection while leading the Warriors to a state championship. Prior to being drafted by the Blue Jays in the 1986 amateur draft, he spent two seasons pitching for Seminole State College. Rogers lives in Beggs and enjoys giving personal pitching instruction when not working with the Hillcats.
RUSTY WOOD - ASSISTANT COACH Rusty Wood begins his first season as a member of the Rogers State baseball coaching staff. Prior to joining the Hillcats in the fall of 2013, Wood served as assistant baseball coach for Owasso High School from 2004-2012. In his role with the Rams, he was responsible for practice planning, strength and conditioning, middle infielders, and outfielders. Wood was a member of the coaching staff as the Rams won four Oklahoma Class 6A State Championships, including three consecutive titles. In 2013, the Rams went 36-0 and finished second in the USA Today National Baseball Rankings. Wood's list of professional players he coached that are currently playing includes; Pete Kozma, Brian Flynn, Austin Kirk, Brandon Bargas, Matt Hoffman, Drew Stiner, Dylan Bundy and a number of players that went onto play collegiately. Wood is a 2012 graduate of Rogers State University. 12

The Rogers State baseball team begins a new era in 2014 as the Hillcats will embark on their inaugural season in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference. The Hillcats have a whole new look after graduating 15 players from last season’s NAIA World Series team that finished the final season in the NAIA with a 36-24 overall record. Head Coach Ron Bradley will have several new faces playing across the diamond with 20 newcomers on the squad. Despite losing every starting position player to graduation, the Hillcats return 14 players who saw the field for the Diamond Cats a season ago while adding three redshirt freshmen who had a year to learn the RSU system.
A junior duo from Broken Arrow, Okla., emerged as key components out of the Hillcat bullpen a year ago. T.J. Law played in 17 games last season with three saves and one win. Mason Marquette played in 16 games last season with three saves on the year. He tallied a 2.78 ERA, the lowest of any returner on staff. “T.J. has had a great fall and has improved every year. He is either a weekend starter or a heavy contributor out of the bullpen. Mason is a specialty guy, he gives teams a different look. He has a chance to be really effective and we have entertained him being a starter in the rotation,” Bradley added.
“We probably do not have as much flash on our infield but this group is probably the most consistent infield that we have had as far as making the routine plays,” Bradley said. “Our program has always been built around pitching and defense. Losing several great veteran players has created a situation where the door is wide open for playing time. We are hoping to see some guys make the most of the opportunity”
Redshirt freshman Collin Thomas, sophomore Zach Tyson and Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa transfer Edward Layton will vie for time in the rotation.
Pitchers
The most touted returners for the Hillcats are on the pitching staff. RSU returns seven pitchers from last year’s team, including a pair of seniors who are slated to start weekend games for the Diamond Cats.
“The first two weeks of the season are very important for our rotation. Collin is in the mix to pitch some quality inning. He is a six footseven inch right-handed pitcher with a lot of promise. Zach will also be in the mix for a spot in the rotation along with Edward, a junior college transfer who could be a mid-week starter or a bullpen guy in a conference series.”
Kyle Duncan and Jesse Baird are two of the most experienced hurlers on the Hillcat staff. Duncan has been a weekend starter for the Hillcats for the last two seasons. The Bedford, Texas native tallied complete-game performances in consecutive NAIA Opening Round Championship games to send the Hillcats to the World Series. Baird joined the Hillcats last season, and despite being plagued with injury early, the Verdigris, Okla., product played in 10 games last season with five starts.
A trio of southpaw pitchers will compete for time on the mound. Senior Kyle Deaton, sophomore Colton Weeks and junior Travis Teague all give Coach Bradley options from the left side. “Colton has earned an opportunity to pitch and has grown in the program. Kyle Deaton and Travis Teague will also be in the mix. Senior Drew Anthony along with newcomer Matt Shepherd will more than likely come out of the bullpen.
“Jesse and Kyle are both seniors returning and they are the two coming back with the most experience,” Bradley said. “They both have post-season experience. Jesse got off to a slow start last year due to a broken hand but he has come back and had an outstanding fall. He has tremendous work ethic and leadership. He is going to give us that quality arm that will match up with anyone’s front line. Kyle

First Base
With a few shifts around the diamond early this spring, Vian, Okla., native Hunter Spencer has earned a starting spot at first base. The junior transfer from Connors State College tallied a .364 batting average during his sophomore campaign.
The Hillcats haven’t been known to have a true closer on the staff and this season will not be the exception. Coach Bradley may call on any number of guys to close out the game.
“The door has opened for Hunter to get some time at first base. He probably has the most power on our team so it will be good to get him in the lineup.”
“Coach (Robert) Brown and I have talked about having a true closer. Edward could fill that role along with maybe T.J., but he is too valuable to put on the back burner.”
Second Base
Catchers
A trio of returners will compete for the starting spot at second base with senior Nick penciled in as the everyday starter. The Wilmington, N.C., native appeared in 32 games, making 13 starts last season.
RSU will look to Johan Ochoa to fill the void at catcher after the loss of projected starter Emmanuel De La Cruz. Ochoa was the Hillcats projected starting third baseman but has quality experience behind the dish. Freshman Joe Crow will also see time at catcher.
“Second base has been a very competitive position. The frontrunner is Nick Malter. He was able to get some playing time last year and he is a very quality defender. Hamilton Hernandez, who has been a backup at second base for the last three seasons, will get some playing time. Austin Culwell is more of a utility guy. He has one of the better arms on the infield and always leaves it all on the field; he can play second, third or short.
“Manny will be a student assistant for us and he will really be instrumental in the development of our catchers. Right now we are looking to move Johan to catcher. He played catcher last summer and really had a good fall in the innings that he caught. He is penciled in as our opening day catcher. Joe is a hard worker and has made a lot of improvement this fall. He is a guy we feel can develop over the next two years. But he is going to have an opportunity to play some quality innings early.”
Shortstop
Northern Oklahoma College-Enid transfer Chase Knott will play shortstop for the Diamond Cats. The junior from Locus Grove, Okla., played in 47 games with 23 RBI and 28 runs scored as a sophomore.

He has brought a lot to the program both defensively and offensively. Ryan Hendricks is a utility guy who can play everywhere on the infield and could contribute. He is someone that makes the routine play and comes up with big hits.”
Another Claremore native that could be an immediate contributor in the outfield and on offense is Isaac Hollihan, a true freshman from Claremore High School. “Isaac will get some time off of the bench as a left-handed hitter. He is from Claremore and has experience in some big games. Hopefully he can DH or pinch-hit off the bench. “
Third Base
Schedule
Sophomore Caleb Kohlmeyer saw time at first base last season, playing in 18 games with a .333 batting average as a true freshman. With Ochoa moving behind the plate, Kohlmeyer will most likely shift to third base.
The Hillcats schedule looks much different than in years past. RSU will face several teams for the first time in program history and have several long road trips to contend with during conference play.
“Caleb was penciled in at first but might get some time to play third since Ochoa will be moving to catcher.”
“This schedule brings on a different flavor than we are used to. There is not much difference from the top to the bottom of the schedule.”
Outfield
The Hillcats will have big shoes to fill in the outfield this season as they lost NAIA All-American Colton Campbell and 2012 World Series Gold Glove winner Eric Baker to graduation.
The Heartland Conference has a rich baseball tradition with St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s each making the NCAA Division II World Series over the last two years. Although the conference is new, RSU will continue its rivalry with former Sooner Athletic Conference foe Lubbock Christian.
Junior Blake Heston was slated to be the only returning starter this season after playing in 54 games, making 38 starts last year. However, the Pryor, Okla., native will redshirt the season after undergoing surgery in the fall.
“We have had some battles in the past with Lubbock Christian and hopefully the rivalry will continue. Oklahoma Christian is also a team we have played in the past in the SAC. St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s are probably the most talented two teams in the conference both making World Series appearances in the past. Those are going to be trips that brings a little excitement to our community to be playing teams from those areas. It will be an enjoyable atmosphere.”
“We took a big hit losing Blake. He was a good left-handed hitter and defender. But on the bright side, we will have Blake back for the next two years.” Junior Alex Cochran was the Diamond Cats go-to courtesy runner last year and played defensively in the outfield during late innings last season. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native played in 54 games last year and finished second on the team in stolen bases with 13.
The Hillcats will end the season with a familiar foe and one of the club’s biggest rivals against Oklahoma Baptist at OneOK Field in Tulsa, Okla., on April 29.
“Alex is penciled in as our center fielder. He has a lot of energy and will hit lead off. He has a chance to steal 20 or more bases, is a great defender and has made progress offensively.”
“We are able to play OBU and I feel like they were our biggest rival in the SAC. It always seemed to come down to them and us. It was a very good rivalry. We are going to get to end our season playing them at OneOK.
“One of the newcomers that I feel has a chance to be an offensive plus for us is Blake Gipson. He played at Dallas Baptist and Carl Albert. He really has a chance to be a three-year starter and brings a lot of pop to our lineup. He has a lot of potential.”
RSU will take on Northeastern State and Arkansas Tech in nonconference play. The Hillcats have faced both squads in past seasons.
Claremore, Okla., native J.P. Seifried is penciled in as RSU’s everyday leftfielder. He played in 38 games, starting in 35 as a true freshman at Mid-America Christian University.
“NSU and Arkansas Tech are both good non-conference opponents that will be great challenges for our ball club. Even though we lost some games off our schedule this season, we have a more consistent schedule. We are looking forward to the NCAA DII schedule and the transition to full membership.”

He posted a 7-3 record as a junior throwing 68.2 innings while holding the opposition to a .244 batting average with 42 strikeouts. His biggest game came in the NAIA Opening Round championship against Lubbock Christian where he threw a complete game taking the Hillcats back to the NAIA World Series for the second-consecutive season. 2013 BASEBALL SEASON IN REVIEW
u RSU made its second consecutive trip to the NAIA World Series in 2013.
The Diamond Cats hit a slump down the stretch, as they were swept by Lubbock Christian and lost three of four to Oklahoma City heading into the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.
The Rogers State baseball team rounded out a storybook season in 2012 as the NAIA World Series runner-up but they had some unfinished business in 2013. The Hillcats rounded out their seven-year stint in the NAIA with a memorable NAIA Opening Round Championship in front of the hometown crowd and a second consecutive trip to the and NAIA World Series.
The Hillcats fell in back-to-back games in the conference tournament but the Cats season for long from over as they were selected by the NAIA to host an Opening Round for the NAIA World Series, receiving an automatic bid.
RSU (36-24) produced its seventh-straight winning season in 2013. After playing Cinderella at the World Series, the Hillcats were tabbed fifth in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll. It was just the second top-five mention for the Cats. RSU opened up the season with four wins, outscoring their opponents 53-36 before suffering two losses in Dallas, Texas against Tabor (Kan.) 1-0 and UT-Arlington 3-1.
The Hillcats were revived during the postseason as they swept through the NAIA Opening Round-Claremore Bracket. In the first game of the tournament, they clawed their way to an 8-4 victory over Midland (Neb.) as senior southpaw Shawn Spainhoward went the distance on the mound, fanning 12 hitters. In the nightcap on the opening day of play, the Hillcats avenged a regular season they suffered against fourth-ranked and topseeded Lubbock Christian as RSU grabbed a 7-5 victory. In their third game, the Diamond Cats defeated Lyon (Ark.), 16-2, pounding out 15 hits and scoring eight runs in the first inning to reach the championship game. The Hillcats were pitted against conference foe, LCU in the championship game. In front of a hometown crowd of over 500, the Hillcats clinched a berth to the Avista-NAIA World Series with an 8-4 victory over the topseeded Chaps. For the second consecutive season, the Hillcats won the Opening Round with right-handed hurler Kyle Duncan on the mound. The Bedford, Texas native went the distance in the championship game in back-to-back seasons spurring the Diamond Cats to victory.
The Hillcats rebounded and won 15 out of their next 16 games. That streak ended with an extra inning battle against nonconference opponent university of Arkansas-Fort Smith, losing 5-4. With conference play in full effect, the Cats split a tough series with conference foe Oklahoma Baptist but bounced back, winning three out of four against Mid-America Christian, outscoring the Evangels, 32-5. Science and Arts took three out of four games against the Hillcats but RSU bounced back with a sweep over Wayland Baptist and a non-conference win against Northeastern State at ONEOK Field.

2013 BASEBALL SEASON IN REVIEW Seeded 10th in the World Series, RSU was forced to face the hometown favorite in the opening games as the Lewis-Clark State Warriors tallied a 6-1 win over the Hillcats. The Hillcats stayed alive in the loser’s bracket with a 4-1 win over York (Neb.). RSU was led by a standout pitching performance from senior southpaw Brandon Bargas, who fanned a season-high 10 Panthers. The Owasso, Okla., native became just the second Hillcat pitcher in program history with 200 or more career strikeouts. The Hillcats would eventually end their season losing to Missouri Baptist 5-4. RSU ended its season ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Postseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Five Diamond Cats received Sooner Athletic Conference awards for the 2013 season. Colton Campbell led the way as he was named Sooner Athletic Conference First Team, leading the conference with a .418 batting average. Eric Baker, Shawn Spainhoward, Brandon Bargas, and Keith Poverud rounded out the rest of the Hillcats to receive conference awards. For the second year in row, Casey Cassity was named a Daktronics NAIA-Scholar Athlete. A native from Barnsdall, Okla., Cassity graduated in May with a degree in accounting and recorded a 3-2 record while tossing 31 innings on the year. Head Coach Ron Bradley rounded award winners as he was named the 2013 Rawlings-NAIA Regional Coach of the Year for the Plains Region.

ABOUT THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE The Heartland Conference is an NCAA Division II conference, founded in 1999, that currently consists of 12 schools, seven from Texas, three from Oklahoma, and one each from Arkansas and Kansas. The schools comprising the Heartland Conference stretch from as far north as Wichita, Kan., as far east as Fort Smith, Ark., as far south as Laredo, Texas, and as far west as Goodwell, Okla.. The Conference stretches over a distance of 1,050 miles north to south and 610 east to west. The schools that are in the Heartland Conference include founding members St. Edward's University (Austin, Texas), and St. Mary’s University (San Antonio, Texas), and expansion members Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, Texas) in 2002 and again in 2004, Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Goodwell, Oklahoma) in 2002, and Newman University (Wichita, Kansas), Texas A&M International University (Laredo, Texas) and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) in 2006, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (2009), McMurry University and Oklahoma Christian University in 2012, and Rogers State and Lubbock Christian in 2013. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are national championships in baseball, golf, swimming, basketball, softball, and nationally ranked teams in all sports. The strength of the student-athlete concept is well supported by the many NCAA scholar-athletes in each school, the high cumulative GPA of the student-athletes in each school, and the high number of student-athletes who graduate from each institution in the Heartland. The Heartland Conference is the newest of the NCAA Division II conferences. At the present time, there are 24 conferences in NCAA Division II, totaling almost 300 institutions in full or provisional status across the nation. Members of NCAA Division II believe that a well-conducted intercollegiate athletics program, based on sound educational principles and practices, is a proper part of the educational mission of a university or college and that the educational welfare of the participating student-athlete is of primary concern.

ABOUT THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE Members of NCAA Division II support the following principles in the belief that these objectives assist in defining the division and the possible differences between it and other divisions of the Association. This statement shall serve as a guide for the preparation of legislation by the division and for planning and implementation of programs by institutions and conferences. The Rogers State University Hillcat Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) mission is to foster open communication between student-athletes and the athletics administration, and to enhance the studentathlete experience by developing leadership skills, promoting a positive student-athlete image, and improving the day-to-day life of all student-athletes through activities, social events, and community service. SAAC membership will be composed of two representatives from each sport. Members must be academically and athletically eligible, and must be of sophomore standing or higher. Members must adhere to and support the purpose of the SAAC, and attend scheduled meetings unless previously excused. If absent members must make arrangements for a temporary alternate representative from their sport to attend. One member of the athletics department administration shall serve as the SAAC advisor. RSU HILLCAT MEDIA SERVICES The “Hillcat” was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.
Interviews
All interviews should be setup through the sports information office. RSU head coaches are available throughout the week, mainly in the morning. Student-athletes are also available for interviews, typically right before or after practice. Most Hillcat teams practice between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the week. Requests for credentials to athletic events should be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event and directed to the sports information office. Spouses, dates, children and non-working media will not be given a pass or assigned a seat on press row. RSU does not provide parking passes to the media.
Style Guidelines u When making a proper name ending in s possessive, DO NOT add an s: i.e. Coach Blevins’, NOT Coach Blevins’s. u In athletic media communications and publications, DO NOT use the term Lady Hillcats or Lady Cats. Hillcats, Cats, Softball Cats, Diamond Cats (baseball), etc. are acceptable. u Refer to the institution as Rogers State on first mention in news releases or other communications about sports events. The words university or college are understood in such releases, and are a commonly accepted practice within athletics.
Gameday Services
RSU’s sports information office produces media guides and game notes for baseball games, which include rosters, schedules and statistical leaders. Opponents are asked to supply RSU -- either via, email or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, up-to-date statistics and season scores, for use in our game day notes no later than a day before the event. Visiting media seating is available in the press box at the Diamond Sports Complex, RSU asks that those requests be made to the sports information department no later than 24 hours in advance. Following a home event, RSU will supply all results to both home and visiting media. RSU always contacts the Claremore Progress, Tulsa World, Daily Oklahoman, and local TV and sports/news radio stations with scores and statistics (where applicable).

RSU will email results and statistics to opponent media. Please contact the sports information office at least a day in advance of a game with media email addresses. Opposing teams are also free to use phone and fax machines in the athletic office or sports information office. Please ask the sports information director or an athletic staff member for assistance.
Statistical Services
RSU uses the StatCrew statistics programs for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. RSU will supply visiting teams and media with complete statistics immediately following the game. Postgame, RSU will email a game file to opposing SIDs. A box score of the event will also accompany the email in attachment form. If coaches or opposing SIDs would like statfiles immediately after the game, please have a jump drive available and we will gladly take care of it.

What is a booster?
A booster may not provide a student-athlete any benefit or special arrangement that would not be offered to the rest of the general student population. This would include:
You are a Booster or Representative of Athletic Interests, if you: u Have participated in, or ever have been, a member of a booster organization that supports RSU athletics;
u May not entertain student-athletes or their friends or family;
u Have made any financial contribution to the RSU athletic department or any athletic organization of the University;
u May not use the name or picture of an enrolled studentathlete to advertise, recommend, or promote any product or service;
u Have been involved in the recruitment of a prospect or have been asked to assist in the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete;
u May not provide awards or gifts to student-athletes; u May not allow a student-athlete to use a telephone to make free calls, or allow use of a free or discounted auto mobile;
u Have provided or are providing benefits to an enrolled student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends; u Have otherwise been involved in promoting the RSU athletic program;
u May not provide a student-athlete free or reduced cost goods or services;
u Have helped arrange employment for student-athletes;
NOTE: An enrolled student-athlete may be invited to a booster's home for an occasional home-cooked meal, but may not be taken to a restaurant.
u Are a parent or guardian of an enrolled student-athlete; u Are or have ever been a season-ticket holder.
Employment
NOTE: Once someone has been identified as a Booster, they will retain that identity forever.
Recruiting
A student-athlete may be employed so long as compensation is only for work actually performed, at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar work, and the student-athlete was not hired based on athletics ability.
A prospective student-athlete is any person who has begun classes in the ninth grade. A prospective student-athlete remains so even after signing a National Letter of Intent or accepting financial aid and until they report for the first day of classes.
NOTE: Employment may be arranged for a prospect provided the employment does not begin before the completion of the prospect's senior year of high school.
What are Boosters prohibited from doing?
RSU is responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups. Boosters are regulated by the same NCAA rules and regulations placed upon all institutional athletics staff members.
What is a prospective student-athlete?

u Contacting a prospect in person on or off campus u Writing or telephoning a prospect or member of the prospect's family
Consequences
If a booster provides an impermissible benefit to a prospect, a student-athlete, or their relatives or friends, institutions may be subject to penalties, even if the student-athlete has completed his or her eligibility. A prospect or student-athlete who accepts an impermissible benefit faces the loss of eligibility.
u Making arrangements for the prospect or the prospect's relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid u Providing transportation for a prospect or the prospect's family or friends to visit the campus u Providing free tickets or reduced priced tickets to attend an athletic event to the prospect or the prospect's family or friends u Entertaining coaches of prospects

u The centerpiece of the Diamond Sports Complex is the two-story building, completed in 2012, positioned between the baseball and softball playing fields.
Diamond Sports Complex
The Diamond Sports Complex, home to Hillcat Baseball and Softball, sits on the northwest corner of RSU's Claremore Campus featuring a professional playing surface, large inning-by-inning scoreboard, batting cages adjacent to the home dugout and spacious grandstand and lawn chair areas for fans. A large locker room is located behind the Hillcat dugout that includes individual lockers, coaches’ office, bathrooms, showers and a 42-inch flat screen television. Lights were installed in time for the 2008 season. The centerpiece at the Diamond Sports Complex is a 7,790 square-feet, two-story building positioned between the playing fields and completed in time for the start of the 2012-13 academic year. The first floor includes concessions and restrooms for patrons as well as two dressing rooms for umpires and multiple storage areas. The second floor features separate press boxes for baseball and softball, coaches’ offices, and a donors’ suite with indoor and outdoor seating. New grandstands with stadium seating, a ticket booth, and a paved entry plaza were also included in the project.
Claremore Expo Center
Claremore Expo Center serves as the home of Hillcat basketball on game nights. It is also utilized as a secondary practice facility for the men's and women's basketball teams. The Expo features arena seating on all four sides of the court for 2,000. A four-sided digital scoreboard adorns center court accompanied by professional playing goals with three-sided shot clocks on each end of the floor. A stateof-the-art sound system helps produce a fun atmosphere for fans and often creates a hostile environment for opponents. The Expo Center is located less than a mile from the RSU campus on Highway 20 in Claremore.

Hillcat Athletics Center
The Hillcat Athletics Center for the RSU soccer and cross country teams began construction in October 2011 and was completed prior to the 2012-13 academic year. The 8,986 square-foot building is located in the north end zone of Soldier Field, adjacent to Blue Starr Drive. The facility features spacious locker rooms for the men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Coaches’ offices, an athletic training room, and storage areas for athletics and intramurals are located in the central area of the building. The facility also includes permanent concessions and restrooms for patrons and a paved concourse area with sightlines to the field.
Soldier Field
Soldier Field is located in the heart of the RSU campus. The facility was originally constructed as a venue for the Oklahoma Military Academy's football games. The field has been widened and resurfaced and a new digital scoreboard has been added in the south end zone. Soldier Field also features a large press box, lights, a public address system and stadium seating for a great view of the action. Installation of the new turf began following the conclusion of the RSU soccer season in November 2011 and was completed in May 2012. The artificial turf surface allows RSU to maximize the availability and functionality of historic Soldier Field. The durability of artificial turf permits the university to utilize Soldier Field for athletic training and competition, intramural sports, and other student activities and community events.
Bushyhead Fieldhouse
Bushyhead Fieldhouse serves as the on-campus practice facility for RSU men's and women's basketball teams. The gym recently received a complete makeover which included refurbishing and repainting the floor, the addition of six new goals, new digital scoreboards and the installation of portable seating with a capacity of 300. Bushyhead is also the home of the athletic department offices as well as the RSU Wellness Center - a private weight training facility for student-athletes. Bushyhead houses both the men's and women's basketball locker rooms, an athletic training room, an academic tutoring center for student-athletes and public restrooms. The Hillcats play their home games in the Claremore Expo Center, located one mile south of campus.

HILLCAT NETWORK and RSU Radio 91.3FM Rogers State Athletics and Stretch Internet will team together for live audio and video streaming of Hillcat Baseball for the third consecutive season in 2014 and returning to RSU Radio 91.3FM for select games. RSU’s Game Central portal provides fans with free access to Hillcat game information within a unified and custom-branded interface. Game Central will include live and on-demand high-definition video and high-quality audio, complete and searchable up-to-date broadcast schedules as well as live ingame stats of the broadcasts. All live broadcasts are archived and available free of charge under the On Demand tab in the Game Central portal. Twenty-seven games will be broadcast over 18 dates with live audio or video on the Hillcat Network (www.rsuhillcats.com/live). Live video streaming will be provided for 11 RSU home games with the Hillcat Network providing live audio streaming for 18 games. RSU Radio 91.3FM will broadcast 11 games on the airwaves and online at www.rsuradio.com. Streaming on the Hillcat Network is iPhone, iPad, and iPod friendly and is also compatible with most other mobile devices. All home games will include audio, video, and live stats. Josh Haley returns for his third season as the voice of Hillcat Baseball. The 2010 Rogers State graduate is a familiar face on the Claremore campus serving as voice of RSU Baseball, Softball, and Soccer on the Hillcat Network. As a senior at RSU, Haley served as Sports Editor of The Hillpost and hosted “ClawTalk”, a weekly sports talk show covering Hillcat Athletics, on RSU Radio. He has spent the past six years on RSU Radio’s broadcast of Claremore Zebra Football, serving as color commentator the previous four years. Haley previously served as a correspondent for the Tulsa World covering high school athletics, Tulsa Drillers, and Tulsa Shock. The Hillcat Network is a student-staffed broadcast team featuring live, three-camera, high-definition broadcasts for nearly all home athletic events. All broadcasts can be viewed at www.rsuhillcats.com/live. RSU Radio is a 3,000-watt student and volunteer-operated radio station on the RSU campus. The university celebrated the first-ever Homecoming during the first week of November 2007, during the first Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball games. At RSU, Homecoming is a campus-wide tradition. A bonfire is typically held the night before the big games in the open area west of the University Village B student apartments.
