THE WATCH’S RETURN TO EARTH FOLLOWING 3 DAYS ON THE LUNAR SURFACE, SCOTT AND IRWIN GUIDED THE LUNAR MODULE TO RENDEZVOUS WITH COMMAND MODULE PILOT AL WORDEN. This watch was then transferred to the Command Module ‘Endeavor’ and used by Scott for the remainder of the mission, including another two days in lunar orbit and the crew’s eventual journey home. Commander Scott even used this vital chronograph to back up on-board timers for the critical time of initial reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere. Apollo 15 concluded their record twelve-day mission with a Pacific Ocean splashdown and recovery by the USS Okinawa on August 7, 1971. A photograph of the crew in their recovery raft [NASA #AS15-1060-71H-1237 imaged below] clearly shows this Bulova Chronograph strapped to the left wrist of Commander Scott, whose personal safekeeping this incredible watch has remained in for the past 44 years.
