to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold, or better known as “my favorite night of the year.” It brings me unexplainable joy and gratitude to stand in front of you again as we continue our mission together to provide critical year-round programs, camps and services to Idaho's children and families affected by a cancer diagnosis—all free of charge to them. This evening is about celebrating incredible everyday superheroes; our campers, our volunteers, our staff and all of you, our cherished donors. As longtime, devoted supporters, it truly is YOU that has helped us grow what was once a distant dream. Hundreds of Idaho children diagnosed with cancer and their families have the opportunity to forget about the rigors of this disease, even if just briefly. As the great oncology nurse Pat once said “Camp Rainbow Gold is as important to their treatment as the treatment itself!” It is our great honor tonight to pay tribute to the late Adam West, "Batman." This generous Sun Valley friend and supporter touched so many lives, including our precious Camp Rainbow Gold children. This past May, one of Adam’s last wishes was for his fans to donate to Camp Rainbow Gold in his memory. Such a selfless last gesture which perfectly sums up the great gentleman that he was. Thank you "Batman" for the countless years of Superhero giving. Know that we will be here each year raising money and awareness for Camp Rainbow Gold, “same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!” And a huge heartfelt thank you to our long time angel supporters, tonight’s Presenting Sponsor, The Nancy P. And Richard K. Robbins Family Foundation. With love and eternal gratitude, Kris (Cronin) Nardecchia Co-Founder, Share Your Heart Ball to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold

Adam West was not only TV's iconic Caped Crusader from the 1960s, but also an abstract painter, taking inspiration from this classic series as well as characters from his imagination inspired by his intimate knowledge of Batman. He decided to do an homage to the Batman show and all the wonderful characters the show had. “Batman was a colorful and wild ride. My paintings capture the humor, zaniness and depth of the Batman villains as well as the Freudian motivations of Batman as an all-too-human, venerable and funny vigilante superhero.” This limited edition, numbered and signed Batdog print has been lovingly donated by his family in support of Camp Rainbow Gold. Be a superhero and raise your paddle high for this one-of-a-kind opportunity!

This limited edition, numbered and signed Batdog print. One of only 15 prints remaining.

Adam West was a true American icon with a philanthropic heart. From his humble beginnings on a wheat ranch in Walla Walla, Washington, Adam skyrocketed to fame in Hollywood pursuing an extraordinary career in entertainment that spanned half a century. His role as Batman in the classic television series and feature of the same name continues to be seen throughout the world more than 40 years after its debut. While Batman, and his alter ego Bruce Wayne, remains his signature role, Adam has a multitude of motion picture, theater, TV, and author credits to his name over his abundant career. He made nearly 50 movies in both starring or co-starring roles, portrayed countless TV characters in many series other than Batman, and lent his iconic voice to animated characters in dozens of wellknown animated projects in both TV and film. In fact, it was that instantly recognizable, iconic voice that saved the Share Your Heart Ball to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold back in the late 2000’s when our auctioneer fell ill to a severe case of laryngitis. While attending as a guest, Adam stepped up and took on the role of Superhero "Share Your Heart Auction Reader" for our auction lots. He used those superpowers so well that it became a record-breaking (and memorable) year for our fundraising program. He was a devoted and loving family man and was married to his lovely wife Marcelle for over 46 years. He was father to six children, grandfather to five and great-grandfather to two. He and Marcelle resided in his beloved hometown of Ketchum, Idaho, where they could frequently be seen chatting with local community residents and visitors. He was kind to all he met. During his magnificent life, Adam lent his name and support to numerous charities and won $250,000 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on behalf of an organization supporting underprivileged women and children in Idaho. He continued his enduring support of our own Camp Rainbow Gold all the way through his passing last June 9, 2017 when he requested his fans to donate to Camp Rainbow Gold in his memory. What an amazing last gesture from a remarkable hero. We honor you tonight Adam, for your incredible dedication to Idaho children who are battling the rigors of a cancer diagnosis. Thank you for your beautiful legacy to our Camp Rainbow Gold family.

As many of you know, the impetus for this theme comes from one of the final requests from the ultimate superhero, friend and supporter, Adam West. Before Adam passed away from Leukemia last year, he urged his friends and fans to support Camp Rainbow Gold, and for that, we are forever indebted. From this gesture, Celebrating Superheroes came to be. We must admit in all the planning and preparation that has gone into making this magical evening, there has been as much delightful daydreaming—visions of people arriving in invisible airplanes and custom cars that shoot flames out the back, men and women checking enchanted swords, lassos and capes at the door, and hundreds of caring humans peering out behind masks in every conceivable color—because what’s a party of benevolent guardians of proportion without masks? Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes, with different powers and resources, but the similarities are unmistakable. Superheroes are brave, selfless and unwavering in their mission. They lift up those who need it, and most importantly, they never—ever—give up. When the odds are stacked against them and even on the darkest days, they give absolutely everything they have. Tonight, we uplift the people who lift up Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer. We celebrate the families, the doctors and nurses, the volunteers and friends, all of whom are represented here this evening. Superheroes offer solidarity in strife, and so do each of you. Many of you may not consider yourselves worthy of this title, but for every effort made to help one child with cancer and each outpouring of generosity to Camp Rainbow Gold, there is a family that holds you in their collective hearts as a hero. When a little brother holds the hand of his big sister while she undergoes treatment— he is a hero. When a person devotes a week of their vacation time to be alongside children as they recoup, recharge and connect with each other each summer—the person becomes a hero. When parents, doctors and nurses devote every ounce of energy they have to making a child well again, even when they smile and say they do it because it’s simply what they were put on this earth to do—they are heroes. And when you join us here each year in loyalty and love to ensure these children continue to have camps, support groups, college scholarships and empowering experiences well into the future—you are a Superhero. As you raise your paddles and glasses tonight, please also raise your hearts and heads as high, because we honor you. On behalf of the entire Camp Rainbow Gold board of directors and staff, all of whom consider themselves your faithful and loyal sidekicks, thank you for your compassion and unwavering support.

Elizabeth Lizberg Executive Director

One of our newest superheroes, Easton, and his family The Browns, have become members of our camp family by participating in our family camp and sibling camps. In September 2016, just after his third birthday, Easton was diagnosed with Orbital Rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive cancer of the soft tissue and muscle. His tumor was in his orbit and had caused his eyelid to close almost completely within three weeks from when they initially noticed the signs. He immediately started an aggressive six-month protocol of chemo, spending two months in Seattle to have proton radiation. Now four-year-old Easton is in remission! Easton keeps busy with preschool and loves horses, princesses, and visiting Guru Donuts for story time. His big brother Nolan had the opportunity to enjoy a week at sibling camp this past summer and his cabin presented him with the “Best Dancer Award.” The Brown family also had the opportunity to attend their first Camp Rainbow Gold family camp this past September after which Easton’s mom Paige said “To be able to completely disconnect and have quality family time was exactly what we needed. Although this is the worst club to be in, the most amazing things have come out of it including Camp Rainbow Gold. There is a special kind of bond that forms when you put people together who have all been on this crummy road. It's something that really can't be described. We are so thankful and our hearts are filled with gratitude!"

We are made strong by love, possible by our volunteers, sustainable by you, our donors, and great by the spirit, courage and inspiration of our campers and families. We welcome you to the greatest place on earth!

At Camp Rainbow Gold we believe that art and healing are joined together—the creative process provides inspiration and art makes us feel more alive. We offer the campers many ways to safely communicate their emotions and the Art Shack at camp is a place where they can express their feelings through their art—accomplishment, healing, hope and fun. “Circle Up” is a three-time daily gathering of all campers and volunteers, literally joining hands and forming a circle of love. It indicates meal time, meeting to find out what is happening or has happened that day and unifying as a family. Tonight’s artwork came to life by the creative hands of campers Madeline, Aubrey and Mindy and was inspired by teen oncology camp Art Shack Director, Christine Thomas. Support the power of art and raise your paddles high!
