UPDATE ROYSTON F1RST UPDATE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

Easter in Royston 2022 Over the Easter half term, we held the annual children’s Easter trail. The town was visited by eager children, searching for the names of the bunnies hidden in the shop windows. Thank you to all the shops who took part in the trail and a huge thanks to Banyers House for providing the amazing offer of a ‘pizza-for-two’ voucher to all families who handed in their completed forms. Congratulations to the winner of the Easter Trail, Pearl Johnson, who won an amazing sweet hamper by Ladds in Royston, and a £60 voucher to Glazed Creations.

A big well done to Pearl and thank you to everyone who took part in our Easter trail!

We had over 300 entries to this year’s trail!

Well done to Pearl, winner of this year’s Easter Trail!

Town trail shops We always have lots of interest from businesses to take part in the children’s trail. We do try to rotate the shops whilst making it a circular route for the children, but if you haven’t been part of the trail before and would like to be involved, then please do let us know. We love having different businesses involved in our trails as it helps to make each trail fun for the children. Please do let us know if you haven’t been involved previously, ready for our Autumn trail, by contacting us at info@roystonfirst.com.

Town Maps have arrived! We’ve recently updated both the town centre and town maps of Royston to reflect the changes in our growing town. These updated maps have been distributed to the Information Centre, Royston hotels and estate agents, so members of the public can find their way around - and of course, promote Royston to visitors. To download the updated maps, scan the QR code or visit www.roystontown.uk/maps

Since the pandemic, social media has become an even more essential channel of communication, for businesses and personal use alike. In order to support businesses with this growth in social media, we are offering free social media training to all premises-based businesses. This will cover some of the fundamentals of social media and how to improve online presence for businesses. We will be hosting a social media training webinar that will be available to all premises-based businesses on Thursday 9th and Tuesday 14th June at 1pm. Royston First | UPDATE 03

Annual General Meeting The Royston First AGM was held on the 27th of April. David Smyth was retired by rotation and reappointed as a Director and then Chairman of the Board. Cath Boughton, Nigel Reader and Steve Jackson also remain as Directors. It is with delight that we also welcome a new Director on to the Board - Peter Heppelthwaite, from Limitless Academy of Performing Arts. We are looking forward to working with him and know that he will bring a fresh perspective to our discussions and decisions. It would be great to have more representation on the steering group from Royston businesses, so if anyone would like to join please contact us. The steering group usually meets for an hour and a half every other month. It is a great opportunity to share ideas, plans and projects in order to shape the future of the town and industrial estates. Please contact us at info@roystonfirst.com if you would like more information.

Hanging baskets We are currently looking into the return of the hanging baskets to add more beauty and vibrancy in our town. There is no official date of installation as there are various procedures and health and safety checks to go through, but we will keep you updated!

List your job vacancies on our website Since launching the job page on the Royston First website, we have had a number of businesses promoting their job vacancies. If you are a premisesbased business in Royston, you can advertise your jobs for free. Email your job description over to us at info@roystonfirst.com.

Royston Business Directory You should have had your copy of the pocket-book business directory, which lists all the premises-based businesses in the town centre and industrial estates. It was delivered to all houses and companies in the SG8 area. After receiving fantastic feedback from businesses and members of the public, we have agreed to produce a new directory every year. If you would like extra copies of the Directory to share with your customers, please contact us at info@roystonfirst.com.

1:1 Meetings with Royston businesses As we began to move out of the pandemic, Royston First undertook a small survey of businesses across different business sectors. The most common issue all businesses reported during the survey, was recruiting. This has been difficult across all industry sectors. The new jobs page on the Royston Town website was created to help support businesses with this issue. It has been well used with lots of jobs advertised. Check out www.roystontown.uk/jobs
