Sports Brain

Sports Sports touches all of our lives. The amount of time, money and other resources spent on sport is staggering. But for the big sports fans like myself, we have had countless hours of pleasure (and frustration). The thrill is the competitive nature of sports. Throwing a ball around–eh, not that exciting. Playing in a game—much better. Skating around in a circle–boring. Playing hockey at midnight–much better. Hitting balls on the range–relaxing. Teeing it up for friendly competition–great!! The health benefits of sports and exercise are well documented, as are the negative effects of over zealous parenting, over-competitive players and unreasonable expectations put on our kids. One of my biggest pet peeves is the early age at which kids are expected to specialize in one sport and participate in the travel sports programs (not to mention the costs). I still play many sports competitively including (alphabetically): Golf Hockey Soccer Softball Tennis I always wished I had played hockey growing up since I think it is a perfect fit for my personality and seeing the rise of Lacrosse I know that I would have enjoyed that since it is my skating ability that holds me back (just ask Gary Kayne!!). The famous quote from President Roosevelt about reading the sports section instead of the front page since “The sports section highlights man’s accomplishments, the front page only highlights their failures”, may not be true anymore. If you follow my blogs and some of my posts you will see the immense number of lawsuits, crimes, corruption and other failures well documented in the sports pages. Nonetheless, it still grabs our attention. You will see diverse coverage of different sports here as well as some sarcastic takes on the reality of the sports world and the business of sports.
