Meet the team Dr. Kemil A. Managing a company with 3,000 employees in challenging times for the global economy and for tourism requires a blend of experience, knowledge and expertise. We’d like to introduce a man with all these qualities, Dr. Kemil A. Rizk, who was appointed President and CEO of Royal Resorts on May 30, 2012. Originally from Madera in the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico, Dr. Rizk is a civil engineer with a degree from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). He has a Masters Degree and PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences with a major in Operations Research from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. His career in Mexican tourism and the real estate industry spans 40 years. From 1973 to 1975, he worked for FONATUR, the National Trust Fund for Tourist Development, the federal agency that created Mexico’s first master-planned tourism centers: Cancún, IxtapaZihuatanejo, San José del Cabo, Loreto and Bahías de Huatulco. His responsibilities included planning, project evaluation and promotion. Dr. Rizk has ample experience in resort and hotel management, both at Royal Resorts and earlier in his career as executive vice-president and COO at Nacional Hotelera, S.A. and affiliates, a group that comprised 18 hotels and various restaurants. From 1977 to 1978, he was director-general of the Department of Planning and Tourist Resources of the Mexican Tourism Board and was responsible for the development of a National Tourism Plan for Mexico. He continued as an advisor to the Under-Secretary of Planning in the Ministry of Tourism until 1979. From 1978 to 1982, Dr. Rizk worked for Banamex, the largest bank in Mexico, as advisor, vice-president and, after 1981, senior vice-president of the industrial division, during which time he managed the bank’s investments in 15 large companies in the metallurgical and industrial sectors. Dr. Rizk was appointed president and CEO of FONATUR in 1982, a position he held until 1988. During

his term, he oversaw the development of the first phase of Mexico’s fifth master-planned tourism destination Bahías de Huatulco, and the integral management of Cancún and Los Cabos, both of which were growing in popularity on the world tourism stage. Since 1989, Dr. Rizk has headed up a tourism consultancy company and was a member of the Royal Resorts Executive Management Team in charge of Strategic Activities and Business Development prior to his appointment as President and CEO. His experience, philosophy of excellence, and vision will prove invaluable as he takes Royal Resorts forward for many years to come.
Administrar una compañía de 3,000 empleados en tiempos retadores para la economía mundial y para el turismo requiere una combinación de experiencia, conocimientos y pericia, y nos gustaría presentarles a la persona que reúne estos requisitos, el Dr. Kemil A. Rizk, quien fue nombrado Presidente y Director General de Royal Resorts el 30 de mayo de 2012. Originario de Madera, Chihuahua, el Dr. Rizk es un ingeniero civil titulado del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Tiene una maestría y un doctorado en Ingeniería Industrial y Ciencias de la Administración con especialidad en Investigación de Operaciones de la Universidad Northwestern en Evanston, Illinois. Su trayectoria en el turismo mexicano y en bienes raíces abarca cuarenta años. De
1973 a 1975, trabajó en FONATUR, el Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo, la agencia federal que desarrolló los primeros centros turísticos integralmente planeados: Cancún, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, San José del Cabo, Loreto y Bahías de Huatulco. Entre sus responsabilidades estaban la planeación, evaluación de proyectos y promoción. El Dr. Rizk tiene amplia experiencia en administración de hoteles y desarrollos, en Royal Resorts así como también como Vicepresidente Ejecutivo y Director de Operaciones en Nacional Hotelera S.A., un grupo que comprende dieciocho hoteles y varios restaurantes. De 1977 a 1978, fue Director General del Departamento de Planeación y Recursos Turísticos de la Secretaría de Turismo y era responsable del desarrollo del Plan Nacional de Turismo para México. Continuó como asesor del
Subsecretario de Planeación en la Secretaría de Turismo hasta 1979. De 1978 a 1982, el Dr. Rizk trabajó para Banamex, el banco más grande de México, como asesor, Vicepresidente y después de 1981, como Vicepresidente Senior de la división industrial. Durante este tiempo administró las inversiones del banco en quince compañías grandes en los sectores metalúrgicos e industriales. El Dr. Rizk fue nombrado Presidente y Director General de FONATUR en 1982, una posición que mantuvo hasta 1988. Durante su término supervisó el desarrollo de la primera fase del quinto destino turístico integralmente planeado de México, Bahías de Huatulco, y la administración integral de Cancún y de Los Cabos; ambos estaban creciendo en popularidad en el turismo mundial. Desde 1989, el Dr. Rizk ha encabezado una compañía de consultoría y ha sido miembro del Equipo Ejecutivo de Royal Resorts en cargo de Actividades Estratégicas y Desarrollo de Negocios antes de su nombramiento como Presidente y Director General. Su experiencia, filosofía de excelencia y visión tendrán un valor incalculable para impulsar a Royal Resorts durante los próximos años.
