KSHITIJ MAURYA VP-PUBLIC REALATIONS (2017-18)

“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice. “ - by Brian Herbert. I am glad to have been a member of Royal Gavel Club since it’s establishment. The club has provided me a platform to improve my public speaking skills and organize my words such that I can make the best use out of them. I am thankful for being given the role of the Vice President-Public Relations. My responsibility is to publicize our club through social media and newsletters. My role as a VPPR has given me an opportunity to learn about social media, page management, website creation and newsletter publishing. It was fun and interesting to create and manage our social media pages. On facebook our club can be found as ‘@royalgavelbahrain’ and on Instagram as ‘royalgavel’. I am glad that we have popular social media pages which has helped our club grow in many ways. Creating a website for our club was one of the most challenging and engaging tasks which I’ve had to complete. I undertook this task during my last year’s summer vacations. It took a lot of research, trial and error and took the help of my elders and mentors. ‘royalgavelleaders.weebly.com’ is the name of our website which I have done to my best and maximum capacity. This gave me an opportunity to learn about html, website coding and photo editing and many more skills. Talking about the newsletter. This was another thing which I was dreading as I am a bit of a procrastinator. But truly speaking this gave me another wonderful opportunity to learn about newsletter publishing, editing and designing. I would like to thank all my fellow gaveliers who have contributed articles, writeups and my mentors and my elders who have guided me and helped me. Publishing the newsletter finally make me feel gratified and happy about my own growth as well as my club’s growth! Hope you all enjoy the newsletter!

SHALVIKA SRIVASTAVA RGC PRESIDENT (Feb - May 2018) RGC VP-EDUCATION (May 2017- Feb 2018)

Be determined be Creative! I have been part of the club since last year. I joined the club to learn and enhance my speaking skills and also to improve my interacting skills. My role as VP education was to help my fellow gaveliers and encourage them to come forward and speak. The role of VP education boosted up my leadership skills and I learnt a lot from it. This Gavels club has given me a platform to express myself and discover my hidden speaking and understanding skills. My new role as the President of the club has given me opportunities to be a better leader, speaker and inspire my fellow gaveliers. As the President of the Royal Gavels Club my message to all gaveliers is that give your best in whatever you do, even if you fail, you are strong enough to get up and fight back. You should always be determined in whatever you do and always be creative.

TM AKBARSHA NAGOORKAN RGC SPONSOR/CO-COUNSELLOR

I am proud to say that I was one of the initiators for the opening of ‘Royal gavel club’ in Riffa, Bahrain. The main reason for opening Royal Gavel Club was to provide a learning platform for children in Riffa area including the ones from Royal palm society where I reside. As a toastmaster, I have always witnessed the opportunities and learning atmosphere a toastmaster’s club provides to its members. Thanks to parents, for the overwhelmed response and support for running the club and thanks to club counsellors DTM. Ahmed Rizvi and DTM. Farkhanda Syed, for providing constructive evaluation and guidance to members of the club. I am confident that our club would continuously flourish under our committed members and I wish the club to become a renowned gavel club in this island.

ARYAN SHA RGC VP-MEMBERSHIP(Feb2018May2018) RGC SERG@ARMS(May2017Feb2018)

Our Royal Gavel Club was founded on 5th May 2017 in Alba Club hall Riffa, Bahrain. It started with 21 members including me. I joined Gavel club to improve skills like communication and leadership. It helps me to organize and present ideas logically and convincingly, listen carefully to other ideas, overcome nervousness when speaking before the audience, participate and lead meetings, counsel others to improve their speaking and leadership skills and emerge as a confident good leader. My aim is to become a outstanding speaker and a leader so that one day I can become a DTM like our beloved counsellors DTM. Ahmed Rizvi and DTM. Farkhanda Syed and serve our club as president and other clubs as counsellor.

DIKSHITH JAYAPRAKASH POOJARY RGC TREASURER (2017-18)

A Gavel club is a place where people come to overcome their fears of talking in front of an audience, to improve their leadership skills and to become better speakers. It is a place formed to empower the young, to teach them how to be successful in their future. Royal Gavel Club has taught me things that we would never learn at school. I am the treasurer of my club. Before I joined the club I rarely participated in anything that required me to perform in front of an audience. That’s why I was shy and had very few friends and I ended up being the least productive in my class. That’s when my mother told me about a gavel club that was going to start in two weeks’ time. At first, I was a little skeptical about going to a place where I didn't know anyone but in the end it helped me get rid of my fears. I joined the club because at that time I had stage fright and my leadership skills were not good but mainly because I wanted to be a part of something new. It has been nearly one year since I joined and I can say I have improved a lot now I can easily perform in front of an audience and have even improved my comedian skills somehow. I don't know how I would have been if I had rejected the offer of joining this club, all I do know that I would have regretted it. Joining has helped me a lot I can even be the MC no problem and back in the day it was what I feared a lot. I am currently the treasurer of the club and my duty as the treasurer is to maintain the expense’s and account of the club it may seem easy but a single error can lead to a lot of mistakes. My role as treasurer has caused me to face a lot of difficulties but I never backed down and I overcame these difficulties and I slowly improved and now know what I am doing. I would recommend any to join a gavel club or a toastmaster’s club because even if you think you know everything there can always be scope for an improvement. A wise person once said “Never neglect your fears, embrace them and overcome them."

GAV SHAGUN MODI

To be honest, I had no idea about Gavel’s club until my mother came to me and explained me the mission of this club which states that “Gavel’s club provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater selfconfidence and personal growth”. I somehow found it interesting and showed my interest to join the club. People know me as a shy and an introvert girl and, I am happy with what I am. Public speaking was not really a problem for me which was of course a surprise to my mother however I would say that I have learnt to be more organized in my speeches, to be more confident in delivery of my speeches, to undertake different communication roles and to develop leadership skills. I have found the club activities to be interesting since day one although my experience in the club had been like a roller coaster ride. Sometimes I performed very well and sometimes not. I admit that I hadn’t been perfect in each role of mine in the club although I make sure that I learn from each mistake and promise myself to give my best for the next club meeting.

Make eye contact with the audience to connect

GAV AKSHITHA ADIKESAVAN

Exams , tests, traffic! It is all so overwhelming. How can one get rid of this annoying thing called stress when it constantly keeps on building and building. Studies have shown that too much stress can lead to disrupted sleep, stomach ache, increased risk for heart attacks, etc. Sometimes stress is caused because the person has not utilized his or her time wisely. Too much stress can make you lose your concentration and will also drain your immune system. The smell of the lavender gives a very nice sensation to the body, even treats can get rid of stress for you like the dark chocolate which has certain chemicals which relax the blood vessels in your body. Do tasks which are easier like cleaning your house, repetitive tasks help your brain to focus and last but not least tip of mine is after you clean your house clean you yourself by a warm bath because it boosts your mood and gets all the yes out of your body.

Breath deeply and project your voice
