The Polaris Centre runs a wide range of networking events and workshops to enable businesses to grow their business or help in knowledge sharing. Networking is particularly important if you’re running a home based business because it can connect you with peers and help you overcome potential issues associated with being isolated. Once you begin networking, it’s likely you’ll start to receive invitations to more events from people you meet. Before you know it, your networking group will be growing. If you’re too busy to attend lots of events, focus on developing relationships with just 3 or 4 key people. Strengthen your relationship with contacts you have a good rapport with. Consider contacts that might face similar challenges to you and work out how you might be able to help each other. Here are some tips to help you when networking:

1. Prioritize what events you attend Think about what you hope to achieve, who you want to meet and why, think about what you offer and this will help with prioritising. 2. Talking about your business Before you go to a networking event, think about what you want to say about your business but remember

they will also want to tell you about their business. 3. Business Cards How many times do I go to an event and don’t bring cards! It is very important to always have them with you as your business card should UHà HFW \RXU EXVLQHVV DQG HQVXUH \RX have relevant contact details with your website etc. and don’t push yourself onto people when they ask you give your card and then you can talk about your business this has a greater impact than just handing them out to the thousands. 4. Follow Up This is just as important as taking your business cards to an event – if people have asked you to make contact you should deliver on your promise, whether it’s a phone call or a special offer and then keep in regular contact so you build on your relationship and networks. 2015 was a good year for networking event at the Polaris Centre as we were able to bring some inspirational speakers, digital horizon events helping with upsizing web projects to shopping online, work life balance sessions, business women networking events hearing from women winning Telstra awards to those businesses who started out on a kitchen table to turning over $1m and many more! For 2016 we are already locking in some great events so if you’re not already on the mailing list get yourself on it by emailing polariscentre@ salisbury.sa.gov.au or visit our website at www.polariscentre.com.au. Merry Xmas and A Happy New Year from the Polaris Centre Team.

Five reasons a graphic designer can help grow your business The top 5 reasons why you need a graphic designer are: 1.

Graphic designers understand fonts, colours and images and can visualise your idea and make it happen. They will ensure your brand look and feel remains consistent.

2.

5.

Graphic designers can help you decide what information is important to include in the piece of communication and work with you to create a call to action that gets your customers to act as well as creating a visually appealing design.

So what does a Graphic Designer actually do? A Graphic Designer can market your business and you may be surprised to learn that a day in the life of a Graphic Designer may involve anything and everything from: corporate design, printing solutions, web design, logo creation, newsletters and brochures, illustrations, training and educational props/materials, signage, invitations and cards, VRFLDO PHGLD GHVLJQ DQG PDUNHWLQJ à \HUVDQG VR PXFK more. Four easy steps (and tools) to succeed in 2016 (and beyond)

Successful people don’t fall into their success; they achieve it through setting and achieving goals. As 2015 draws to a close, it’s time to UHĂ HFW RQ ZKDW KHOG DQG WR ORRN IRUZDUG WR ZKDW FRXOG KROG Here are four easy steps (and tools) to ensure you succeed in 2016 (and beyond): 1. Review your 2015 achievements through your online calendar But what did you do in 2015? How many goals did you achieve? Your online calendar holds a lot of information about what you did in 2015. Online calendars allow you to schedule appointments, workloads and reminders through any web-enabled device. They also allow you to colour coordinate your appointments and present them in daily, weekly and monthly formats, so reviewing your 2015 can be very quick. 2. Set your 2016 goals using Evernote Achieving your long term goals comes through incremental steps. Initially, through setting yourself a “Dream Bigâ€? goal, which is achievable in 3-5 years. You then need to break it up into smaller ‘Little Dreamâ€? JRDOV (YHUQRWH D GLJLWDO QRWHERRN DOORZV \RX WR UHFRUG PDQDJH and easily create, change, share and duplicate your goals.
