On Aug. 11, President-Elect Sybil Porter inducted Judi Costa Bjork into the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch. Sybil is Judi's mentor, and Bob Grepling is her sponsor. Lending support at the podium were Bill Porter and Judy's boss, Maribeth Phillips, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. Judi is vice president of outreach and nutrition center programs at the organization.

District Governor-Elect Alfred Current purchased this seashell mirror as a gift for his wife, Area 7 Assistant Governor Karen Cottrill Current, shown with Lakewood Ranch club member Susan Courter. Made with Florida fighting conch shells collected from Sanibel Beach, the mirrors look great as a dining room table centerpiece. Susan's young daughter, Autumn, finds shells, makes items and donates her proceeds to help good causes, including Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch clean water projects in Peru. Find out more by clicking here.

We met these young women at our club meeting July 11 as they told us about their experiences in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Jeanne Eudier, 14, of France was hosted in July by Ellie Dalman. 16, of Bradenton and her family. On Aug. 1, club member Donna Layrisse, who was instrumental in setting up the exchange, reported that they were off to France to continue the cultural adventure for another month in District 6960's STEP program. Jeanne's family lives on a farm; her sponsor club is Club 1640 from Yvetot.
